My new project truck

Yeah......great! LOL. I tell ya, it's one thing to put up with some heat and hang out in the AC, but you gotta be one tough SOB to put up with the just plain nasty cold weather that's set in over the past couple years around here. You could build "The Ark" with all the wood I split this year. You got the right idea with that Dodge and a plow!

I've got the 28" snowblower to deal with my needs. Last year I was using a 87 Honda fourtrax atv that I built a plow for...but I have since sold that for car money :p

I have toyed with the notion of putting on a plow to make a little side money...

Take good care of the tranny, notorious for failure. Usually the convertor.

Sounds like that should do the trick. I'm guessing we won't be checking out the giant ice cream bar this year?

I don't know how the newer ones are but i had to have the one in my 97 1500 done, expensive job for sure!!!

Joel, The shop i finally decided to use after my wife got a loan kind of behind my back to help (long story ill stay away from lol) the guy that owns the place and i go way back to the good ole days and he told me that the trans lines were plugged by a couple small rubber bushings, seals, i really don't remember but the lady i got it from only used it to go to work and i think that's the main reason it was in the great shape it was, he could be wrong but something to consider, he told me it wasn't the first time he came across the same problem...

This is a similar story to what I had happen in my 93 Dakota trans. They put check valves in the cooler lines to prevent converter drain back. What happens is the converter starts to shed some debris and the check valves get plugged. The trans loses cooler flow and overheats resulting in a complete meltdown.

Im glad you mentioned this, there is a lot of us with these Dodge trucks, im temporary out lol but maybe it could prevent a problem with others, if i manage to get another im sure the first thing ill do is change those lines, it is a much cheaper alternative!

Yeah if you get rid of the check valves it should prevent that from happening. On the down side you will have to wait a few moments after start up before you can move the truck so the converter can fill....but hey you should be waiting a few seconds anyway to let the oil pressure build etc. If I buy another with the A500 or A518 trans I'd definitely do a flush with filter and dispose of said check valves.

Im glad you mentioned that, i have my wife trained finally after so many trans problems in her cars to put it in neutral to fill the converter before taking off and she does it! After i explained why she seemed to understand and ive done it for so long with the auto's that its normal to me, there is a few guys ive mentioned this to that just plain feel you do not have to do it, and you don't :) but i do agree completely! Take care of the vehicles and they take care of me...

I'm kind of fond of the color too Ron. Something different in the sea of black, white, silver, and greys out there. Probably also has something to do with bringing back fond memories of a Y1 Cuda I had 30 years ago.

Nice Truck! I'd have a hard time putting on plow duty to rot away. Sorry...:sad8:

Pretty nice hunt but what's the Black beauty doing up on the lift?

That is a beautiful truck.i have a lil over 200k on mine the trans was rebuilt and beefed up at 100k I keep the filter changed and fresh fluid in it.i off road the crap outta it and haven't had no problems. Always clean fluid. Doesn't look like u will but these trucks are monsters in the mud and trails.

I needed a more dependable second truck and my oldest will be getting his drivers license next year. So my thinking was kind of a dual purpose rig and I will be able to write it off as far as taxes go. But then I got a little carried away like I tend to do and fixed it up a little nicer than I should have. My son had a good time helping and thinks he will be the envy of all 16 year olds in our little town lol.

Pretty nice hunt but what's the Black beauty doing up on the lift?

Black Beauty has been in that position for the past 3 weeks. Kind of a sore subject right now with me. I had some problems with my McLeod clutch that was getting worse by the day. The thing only had 600 miles on it when I yanked it out. After several calls to McLeod, they finally admitted they had some problems with this particular model at about the time I purchased it. I just got the clutch and pressure plate back today after they took way to much time (imo) getting it back to me. They took care of everything except the $40. it cost me to ship it to them. Hopefully I can get it back together this weekend to see if it is fixed. If not, I will be looking for a different brand.

Looks great, elk! I agree - I'm not a fan of the silvers and whites that are so prevalent with the vehicles on the road these days.
