My Satellite is a porker!

67 heavier than 68-70?

That doesn't sound right.

I figure my factory air, PS, PB, A727, 67 GTX with some level of undercoating is at or above 4,000 lbs. A luxury hot rod.

I remember one day at the track we were all weighing our cars (when we had a scale), and everyone was watching the weights
While I was loading every tool box and gas can and whatever was laying around into the trunk of my Charger...
They were like "jeez that can't be right?"
My car was probably the lightest car there..
Still laugh about the puzzled looks

For the #'s guys..lol

'64 Dodge 440 = 17' 5" x 6' 2" x 47" body height bottom of rocker flange to roof.

'66 Satellite = 16' 8" x 6' 2" x 46"

'69 Bee = 16' 10" x 6' 4" hips x 45"

'70 SBird = 18' 4" x 6' 2" x 45"

'69 Dart = 16' 2" x 5' 8" x 45"

My 67 coronet is 3700lbs. And that's with a full bench seat interior, roll bar, subframe connectors, 16 gal. Fuel cell. All steel body with fiberglass hood scoop.

Nobody ever said they got good gas mileage...

My wifes Challenger. 4 speed, .060" over 360, ported iron heads, [email protected] hyd roller, full TTI headers and 2 1/2", LD 340 intake, 650 holley DP. With a 2.76 gear it gets 18 mpg on the highway. Heck my Volare Road Runner with a supercharged 340 will get 11mpg with a 4.30 gear. The worst is my 67 Jeep Gladiator pick-up with a 327 AMC motor, 9mpg. My Cummins 3500 dually pulling 12,000 lbs is better at 12mpg
Doug

My 67 post was 3650 with a 440 and glass hood. Roadrunner is 3760 with alum headed big block. They’re not all that light unless you start stripping undercoating and putting them on a diet.

My 64' Polara is dead on 3800 lbs.no driver, about 150 more than I thought. 440, 727, Dana 60. Car has aluminum heads, water pump, intake Rms Alterkation with 4 wheel disc, 3" exhaust to the rear, Tork-thrust, full interior w/ console, all u.s. car tool frame connecters, torque boxes ect, all steel. What is putting it into fat bastard territory is all the sound deadener and the 45lbs. Gear Vender, a/c

Back in the day my then new 1966 Coronet 440, 426 Hemi, 4 speed, Dana rear weighted in at 4040# on the drag strip scales. I was really surprised at that weight

Pretty much what I expected. The Hemi is not svelte.

IIRC most of the drag racing HP/ET "recipes" were written for a 3800 pound car.

Im driving 700 mile road trip tomorrow, fully loaded weight 4200+, interested to see my gas mileage. I get 11 around town at #3700 stomping on the big pedal frequently. I would be pleased with 13 mpg.

If there is a fairly long stretch of 65 mph, it would be interesting to top the tank at the beginning and then again when the 65 mph was over. My unscientifically proven theory is: starting at 60mph, wind resistance hurts mileage noticeably.

Just put my ‘67 satellite on the scale, and mother of god she is heavy!
3700 lbs with a full tank and no driver, what gives? I am wondering if they mixed up weight tickets or something.

Its a 360/727 car with 8-3/4 rearend. I was expecting around #3400.

Things that should have made the car lighter: alum intake manifold. tube headers. no ac or p/s or power brakes.

Things that added weight: Tubular subframe connectors. Cal-tracs bars. Bigger wheels and tires (15x7 and 15x9). Dynamat interior floors. Additional fluid weight from deeper trans pan.

What gives? Is there 300 lbs of lead shot hidden in my doors, 60’s Nascar style?
Without reading the whole thread, gasoline weighs how much per gallon (6) X’s how many gallons in the tank?

The listed weight on the Reggie is dry, no oil, trans fluid, radiator fluid, rear gear fluid. This adds up quickly and a lot by the time everything is added.

Motorcycle riders will tell you the wind changes noticeably around 50 MPH.

I averaged 13mpg ripping along around 80mph, 3200 rpm. Not bad for carrying 500+lbs of cargo. The drone was rough though with windows rolled up.

65 Belvedere I B engine auto years ago when I was racing it.Full street trim was 3625 lbs.
Add a 225 lbs driver and you got 3850 lbs !!!

Love the color. I put the ro23 hood scoop on my ‘67 as well, it really completes the look. One day i plan to fab up a sheetmetal airbox. Will be a fun project.
