Have you ever had an OLD screwdriver or anything else with a plastic grip that smelled like vomit? That's what my steering wheel smells like. WTF causes this? Can you ever get rid of that horrid stank azz smell?.....and no I didn't get ripped and puke in the car.

LMAO, you sure the last owner wasn't an alcoholic?

I drive truck for a living and the combination of fluids (grease oil gas) and dirt will build up over time on the steering wheel and smells horrible. If your steering wheel is solid you can clean it but if it's porous and more soft I am not sure what to do. :icon_scratch:

Yep ,got 2 wheels like that both from 1962 ...it's the plastic for sure .I'd say it's breaking down and off gassing.
Painting or clear coat should seal it up.
I'm going for re cast which has the modern plastics that won't break down.

did you try vinegar and water? sorry that's for something else

Sorry this happened but I have not laughed this hard in a long time

I drive with seat all the way back - straight arm and don't sniff the wheel. When I get home I'll check the Momo.

I bought a '68 Fury III new, and the steering wheel smelled that way for the seven years I drove it. I never found a way to remove the smell, but I loved the car.

While at work one day I noticed that it smelled like crap. The next day after picking up dog crap in my yard I noticed the smell again as I sat down at the computer. Washed my hands again and smell went away. The next day while at work sitting at my desk I noticed that my left hand (narrowed it down) smelled like crap. I washed my hands and the smell persisted. Finally narrowed the smell down to my wedding band. Took it off and it literally smelled like crap. Cleaned the hell out of it and the smell remained so I put it in my wife's jewelry case and bought another one. It is white gold so maybe the chromium reacted with my skin, but it took eight years for the smell to appear so I am baffled.

I can see we have a bunch a F'n comedians here. I'm surprised RC hasn't chimed in yet. I only get 2 straight comments and the rest is BS.

Three if you count moving the seat back. ;)

run it through the dishwasher.... don't let the dry cycle run....that is what I would try if it was mine...chances are you'll get a new one anyhow and it would be worth a shot.

I have 3 tool boxes and only one smells like dog crap. It has from day one. I have tried washing it and all the tools with lacquer thinner and even painted all the tools and box. Still smells like dog crap. I give up.

had a '64 new yorker same thing... it wasn't unbearable but noticeable. I wiped it down with a light bleach mixture and that helped. Did you try turning the radio up??? oh wait; that's to fix an exhaust leak....
