Nothing wrong with them. As I just mentioned about the 413 in another post, they are not as economical to build as the 440. I should clarify by saying the only thing about the 413 and 426W is piston availability, but if you have a rebuilt one for a good price then go for it.

I Agree,

thanks .. I searched for other posts and ran into the articles .. I noticed the part about pistons in there .. DON'T want to start big debate but let me ask you if you had your way would you go with 440 or 426 for a street occasional 1/8 mile blast car ..the 426 I'm interested in I don't have the specs on it as yet so kind of hard to say what output is just that it was recently rebuilt ( 2k on it )

If I had my way, the 440 is the way to go. No replacement for displacement.

Soooo, if I REALLY had my way, it would be a 440 with a 500+ inch stroker kit.

For a hot street car you won't notice a hill of beans of difference between a 426 and a 440, all else being equal.

More cubes...man

x2...1000% no re-placement for displacement!!! and the parts are a helluva more available and a HELLUVA more affordable!!! you can build a monster 440 for a lot less than you would a 426...and have money left over for the suspension!!! .02

The difference between the 426 and 440 bore is .070" - hardly earth shattering - and the difference in piston prices may be $400.00 if you're building from scratch. That's it. If you have a properly machined and assembled 426W in your sights for cheap then your search is over.
