Hey guys,

I need some clutch advice. I currently have 2 project cars, and right now I'm focusing the most on my 68 Coronet, which is far better shape, to try and get one car at least on the road to enjoy a bit while I hemorrhage money buying parts for my cars.

I'm swapping 4-speeds into both cars, I've already purchased an 18-spline trans for my Coronet, while my 71 Satellite will get a 23-spline unit at some point.

I just dropped a grand at Brewers buying almost everything I need to install the trans in the Coronet. I'm only short a flywheel, clutch disc and pressure plate. But here is the conundrum... the engine I'm installing the Coronet is only temporary, the eventual engine is larger and rhymes with "Hemi".

What I would like to do is at least re-use some of the parts later down the road on the 71, which prevents me from running a 143t flywheel right now, since a 71 would use a 130t, correct?

I have an old, hydro-formed Ansen scattershield for my Coronet, and I do have the little starter adapter for either size flywheel. Should I just spring for a quality 130T flywheel and pressure plate, and just get a reasonably priced clutch disc that I can replace later with a 23-spline unit for my Satellite?

I'll be honest, I'm a little manual trans ignorant. I grew up with only automatics around. Its only been in the last few years with my job that I've ever gotten any seat time rowing my own gears.

one thing to keep in mind as a hemi crank has 8 bolts instead of 6 (flywheel will not interchange). if your having one built from scratch you could put a 6 bolt crank in it. mine is.

Is there an advantage to an 8-bolt crank vs. the 6?

I was aware that factory Hemi cranks have 8 so I was already expecting to buy a new flywheel for the car when the time came. And I guess my second question is, is the older 143T flywheel and 11" clutch combo superior to the later 130T/10.5" clutch?

I've pretty much decided to run a 130 in the car for now so I can use it later in my 71 when the time comes. What style of clutch do you guys like ( I know this question has been beat to death) ? I've driven only modern cars with manual transmissions and I can say without a doubt that I hate soft, squishy clutches. I'd like something right in the middle of 4 cylinder econobox and "dump truck".

I have/am searching this forum and the Centerforce dual friction clutch seems popular. Also, Brewer's Performance sells them, so IMHO, that must be a good choice. That's what I am getting for my 440 six pack 70 Roadrunner.

I love my dual friction for the street. I don't know how they would hold up to a strong Hemi........................MO
