Of Coarse I am having trouble installing a MSD dizzy.:angryfire::angryfire:

I marked where the rotor was pointing(#6) on the old dizzy and the base of it. I put the MSD in and the rotor was pointing towards #7. I read the instructions and it said it may be nessacary to move the gear to get it to align. SO do I move the gear 2 teeth and see if that aligns it or what???

HELP ME this stuff is all new to me

Move the wires two spots over to match it back up. If you know for sure it was pointing at 6 and its now pointing at 7 without ever moving the crank while the original was removed from the engine,,,,, you should be fine to do that.

I would forget the marks and bump starter with finger on plug hole #1 till it came up on compression. then use 1.25 wrench on damper to turn damper to 0. figure out where you want number 1 on distributor. line rotor up there and check dist. tab orientation. Then drop gear in and use screw driver to lift and twist intermediate shaft to match. then drop in dist. and twist body till rotor points where you want number 1 on cap. should be able to twist it a little each way after lacing wires to get it to fire.

Well I guess it is true there is more than one way to skin a cat.

I will try moving the wires two spots. If that doesn't work I guess I can just remove it and start from step 1.

I only suggested this method because I leave enough slack in my wires to move the timinig around a bit. I would have enough to move them a couple spots over. It's amazing how many people believe you can be one tooth off on ign timing, or that the rotor has to point at one particular spot on the engine! If #1 is TDC on compression stick that wire wherever the rotor is pointing. It's still 360deg back around to the same spot no matter were you start... LOL!

BTW,
Did you inspect the ProComp dist you removed for any signs of wear? I wonder if it had to much shaft play up and down causing a timing fluctuation? If it did, you could simply shim the shaft to prevent this and saved some cash.$$$
If it wiggled side to side then it would need much more work than it's probably worth. I think some of the older machine shops will still put bushings in them to tighten up that side slop,,,, but it's an old dying art that most have given up for easy replacement units.
