Need help on engine and transmission choices

So on one of my first posts I got booed out the door as I was planning on running a small block chevy. I have done some talking and Have got quite a few opinions the mopar engine is going to be a better fit literally. I don't know much about dodge engines as the only ones I worked on in Dodges are made by cummins. So my end game for the engine is I am planning a twin turbo setup down the road that I would like to get in the 1000 HP club. Its lofty, but I have built quite a few turbo systems on bikes and a honda for a buddy. I know the power can be made. So I am trying to decide what engine would be my best choice. A hemi is out all together for cost. I am going to need a 4 bolt main for sure. So would a 360 or a 440 be a better choice to reach my goal and not break the bank? As far as a transmission goes I am completely lost on what can handle that kind of abuse. I was debating on a 48re as I know from my diesel builds they can handle most anything if built right. But I have no idea what fits what and so forth. So if anybody has some opinions and options I would greatly appreciate the thoughts! I know I have been blowing up the forum, but everybody has had great opinions and info this far, so thanks in advance!
 
I would look into a 400 if you want big block, found easily in trucks and C bodies. Stroker kits are reasonably priced and it sounds like you have a complete build up in mind. Transmission is personal choice, my 727 automatic is rated at 1200hp peak, far more than I need. If manual check out American Powertrain, they have kits for most anything. And remember a Chevy should never go in a Mopar .
 
Im not really sold on a big block. If mopars are like chevys, the big blocks cost way more to build. Just looking for strongest engine per dollar I guess would be how to explain it.
 
Where I live a mopar costs at least 3 times what a chevy does. Example my buddy got a complete front end kit for his chevy for $325, I got a pitman arm for $300. If a small block is more your thing a 318LA is a good start. Cheap, plentiful, and reliable, plus I know there is a magazine article in one of the mopar mags of a build like you have in mind. I think it has something to do with the supercharger store.
 
1000 HP is not going to happen with any factory block if you want it to live. The best bet would be the big block with the addition of the Pro Gram cross bolt main cap kit and a super good crank. Callies or K1.
 
Plenty here have use the 440 source kit with good results, bough you will get the usual Chinese bashing as well.

Honestly, 1000hp is not crazy at all, except that a stock block can't handle it. A stroker kit won't help you IMHO, because 1000hp turbo can be done with a 318ci displacement, you'll still be block limited, strokeror not.

Look into turboforums. I considered a turbo build with my low compression 413 but decided it was out of my league fabrication wise. Let me look to see if I can find some I those thread I read a while back...

Read everything this guy has to say. He's a member here as well but don't remember his username. Me, I tend to find a build I agree with, study it, ask questions, then basically follow it.

This guy is getting into the 9's with a street car (and it's a b body).

I already have one hot rod cummins, not in the plans for this build! I think I'm going to build the 440 and see what happens. The worst I can do is grenade it and start over. I'm kind of thinking about running a nasty big bore with lower boost.
 
For what most are spending on here to build decent power you might as will buy a 6.7 hemi and add the aftermarket turbo parts.
 
i know i will get flak for this(dodge forum and all)i hotrod and trick out doge stuff,my first and true love.i race chevy,because it is so much cheaper to build reliable big power.with a small block chev you have a zillon options at about half to one third the cost.just thought i would throw out a voice of reason and not prejudge since we are on dodge forum.if i chuck a rod through the block at 9000 rpm my chev is gunna be a hell of a lot cheaper to fix.
ya,i just typed that,but it is coming from someone who does both options.all depends on what you want to end up with and how much you wanna spend.
 
Small block Mopars do not like boost, let alone a twin turbo setup. Why? They don't have enough cylinder head bolts and thus, not enough clamping force between the block and head. Unless you want to machine and o-ring the small block, it's going to cause you constant grief.

As mentioned before, the 400 is readily available and has a HUGE bore and a shorter stroke than a 350 Chevy. The only problem is it has a relatively thinwall block casting and doesn't like detonation all that well....

My choice for boosted applications would be a 383 Mopar. At only 17 cubic inches less than the 400, you can make up the difference with a bit more boost as the 383 blocks are PLENTY stout and 99% of them came with a forged crank from the factory. Parts are readily available for them and they rev to the freakin' moon.
