I just got a 440 and the owner tossed in a purple cam. He wasn't sure of the specs though. The number on the end is 942304 but that doesn't match up to any part numbers in the current catalog. There are also I4, C2, D2, SCH 58, and CWC markings on it. Thanks

about the only way to know, is to measure the lift... if you have a dial indicator and a way to rotate it without letting it wobble around. Usually a set of wooden blocks with a v cut in in them, letting the cam bearing surfaces ride there works. Or most machine/engine shops will measure it for you. usually only $10 or so. none of the numbers on it will tell you anything from the research i have done

Well, I just called the Mopar Direct Connection help line, and found out the numbers mean nothing. :) They identify the grind by two dabs of paint on the far end. Mine has light green and white dabs, which make it a P4120235AE, .484 lift, 284 duration, RPM range 2200-5900.

If you want a good street cruiser I would not use that cam. As stated above it doesn't make much idle vacuum because of the increased overlap. A better choice in the MoPar line would be the one I'm running (.455" lift) or if you have a bit more compression the hemi grind .474". Personally I'd use the .455" because it will work with a stock high stall converter (340 type) and all the stock manifolds and carb. If you want more power but still maintain good streetability, and want to run a 4.10 gear, the .528" solid is a good choice.

Thanks for the info! This cam came free with the engine, so if it's not the best application for me I'll just sell it and use the funds to get something better.

My speed shop guy told me the duration at 050 is 228/241, and not the advertised numbers I was looking at.

Same cam that is in my 440. Makes about 5" vac, makes it very hard to tune. Likes a lot of initial timing. Satisfied with the power.
Mopar makes a revised 284/484 cam with a 114 centerline, anybody running one of those?
