I just had this made from a copy of a build sheet and saw that they neglected the N96 code. Before I send it back I would really like to know that the rest of it is right. Not looking to decode it, that's already done.
This is a colored bumper car, is that code usually called out on the fender tag? Compared with the samples shown in Galens book this one looks more like a tag from `69.

Did you copy this from your original tag or is it missing?

From what I've seen of 71 LR tags, there is at least one mistake.

That's not counting the Gate-Base-sequence number. There could be more mistakes in there. I haven't researched the 71 LR tags like I have 69's to be sure.

How confident are you in that SPD? Are you sure that's correct?

On a 69 LR tag, the remainder of the VIN is in the upper right hand corner. The engine, axle and transmission codes are under the gate base and sequence number.

Original tag was missing when I got the car, but it came with 2 buildsheets.

Is it even possible to have come up with the gate, base and sequence # from the build sheet? I too am with you on not being familiar with the `71 tags and I was hoping that you would be one to chime in on this.

Very, Between the 2 original build sheets it was clearly Oct. 23 `70.

This just doesn't look right to me. Here is one of the build sheets, anymore comments or opinions would be greatly appreciated, I would really like this tag to be correct.
Thanks

Thanks for posting the sheets and confirming the SPD. I had a gap in my tags so I couldn't be sure.

No it is not possible to determine the gate, base and sequence numbers from the BS. You must have the original tag for those numbers.

As you do not have the original tag, your new tag will never be 'correct' for that reason.

I realize you already know the pros and cons of making a bad tag for your car so I won't go into all the details but please carefully consider the downside of having a badly remade tag. It's a lot of money for a part you know is incorrect.

If you are one of those owners that absolutly must have a new tag for whatever reason, I'd suggest doing a lot more research on 71 LR Charger tags before paying anyone to make a bad tag.

What a bummer, I had a feeling that was the case but not until after I saw the new tag. The main thing is that I wanted everything to look as it should under the hood and everywhere else for that matter. I guess the important thing is that the car does have the sheets and all the body #s are good. I will never tell anybody that the fender tag is more then just an ornament that I had replaced because it was not with the car when I got it.
Live and learn folks.
