I have an opportunity to buy a used lift this weekend for $600. It is a Challenger Spirit 2, it came out of a dealership and has been sitting outside for about a year. It was working when it was pulled out, they just change them out preventively. Does anyone have experience with these? Is this a good deal? Can I mount it directly to my 6" thick slab? Any help or thoughts would be appreciated! Thanks!

My purchase, at auction, of a used dealership lift was the best $2,000 I ever spent!

Be careful with the purchase, I work for a dealership and we change the lifts when the arms begin to sag, or not line up. We have replaced all the old Challenger lifts over the years.... and there wasn't one I would have wanted.

Wow could ya find two replies that are further apart on the planet? lol

I will clarify. My purchase was a 9,000# Rotary.

600 is dirt cheap for a Used 2 post.
Condition will be the determining factor for you.

Look for any signs of visible damage, or wear, and try to get a price on replacement parts, if available. You will have a good idea as to what it may cost you to have a SAFE, RELIABLE lift in the worst scenario. Otherwise, I think $600 is a very good price to acquire a lift working lift, and mine is mounted on 6" of concrete, NO problems after 10 years...

I will say this,.... $600 for a lift is dirt cheap, so as DCCoronet said, check it out very closely! I will agree with 493Mike that it is money well spent, and I LOVE mine! However, as my wife said when I was looking at lifts,... "Please do not skimp on something that will be holding a car over your head!!". It's the whole reason I waited until I could afford to buy a new lift from a reputable company.

It is all about how good the lifts were when they were new, and what kind of condition they are currently in. I would be a little nervous about why the dealership took it out of service. I understand they said they change them out on a preventative basis, but lifts aren't cheap. We all know how businesses are,.... they don't spend money on things like that unless it's needed (like a safety concern). There's a difference between getting one from a shop that went out of business, and getting one from a shop that "Chose" to replace it. There had to be a reason they changed them beyond just a schedule.

Please just check it out well and make sure the lock system is strong, cables are good, and there is NO wear on the arms. Like I said,... they are very handy, but working with a car over your head is not a good time for a failure!!

Here are some pics, thanks for the input!

DCCoronet brings up a good point. My first thought would be why did they replace it?

Apparently, this shop routinely replaces all their lifts every so many years. They actually offer them to the mechanics on a waiting list, so I don't think they consider them dangerous or they wouldn't offer them to employees. I really appreciate all the comments, I think I'll buy it, knowing it's not new, but making sure it's safe. I'm not worried about me, it's the car I'm concerned about! Haha

Well, that answers my question. If I were in your shoes (and had the space for it) I'd go for it.

P.S.
Nice to know there is a Mopar guy with a lift close by. :)

If I get it and it works, your welcome anytime!! My shop is in Plainfield.

That was kind of tongue in cheek, but I appreciate the offer Mike. Very kind of you. Hopefully it never comes to that. Perhaps we'll meet at one of the local Mopar shows.

At 600, you could wash it and flip it and double your money or better.

I have several more years before my car hits a show, but I do look forward to it!!
