Hey guys, new here to B body forum, I'm a regular on For A Bodies Only. I'm in the process of purchasing a B body from a friends neighbor and need your expertise. What I know about the car is that it's a 1964 Plymouth sport fury, I went today and checked it over extensively. It is a rock solid rust free car, 4 speed 8 3/4 rea. Here is where I need help vin number is 3441174330, engine castings are on front of block it has a casting AAQA, passengers side casting is 2406730-1 . There are also weird notches on the cylinder top ridges. I don't have the heads or intake yet, but it's coming back from there storage today. Can you guys help tell me what I've got here before I purchase it .

Thanks Jeff

Could be street wedge or max wedge block do you have the fender tag.notches in block if factory would be a max wedge block but many racers ground the blocks for valve clearance.

as a side note. those rivets on that vin plate are not original. they are spot welded on early b-bodies not riveted to the best of my knowledge.

do you have any pics of the engine bay & the block?

I will get pics tomorrow, a friend who knows the early B body cars looked at it today, he said he believes it's a factory 426 max wedge car , and he claims they only made 65 4 speed cars in 1964 for Plymouth, if that's correct, this might be a pretty rare car.

If the casting date on the block is 1964, you may have the original block. It is impossible to determine a numbers matching status though since Mopars didn't get their engines stamped until 1968.

The AAQA stamping means its a high nickel content block coming from the marine division of Chrysler. Ive seen the blocks in boats, as well as, max wedge cars. Yes the notches are for better breathing especially when oem exh valves were 1.88in across. If it was a real max motor it would have additional stamping on the pad other than HP. Something like tmp HC with the date on the pad. Ive seen quite a few fake stampings over the years.

X2 on the AAQA casting. My original 1963 383 block has AAQA cast into it.

It does have additional stamping on pad, just can't remember what it was exactly, I'll post pics today of it, want to say it was something like V2 or V24 followed by numbers and HP was at the end

Yeah, I know there's a lot of fake stuff out there, and these early cars are extremely hard to decode compared to the later stuff. I appreciate all the info you guys are giving me. Here are a couple pics of my other babies the white one is a 1968 dart GT 24,000 survivor car, the copper one is a 1969 dart GT pro street with a nasty small block in it. Again thank you much keep the info coming in very helpful

YYou might want to look into this further because I have two early Chrysler cars and there both rriveted in place not welded ! On is a survivor car the other has been owned for the entire life of the car by the same owner !
Ones a Plymouth ones a Chrysler

Ok, so this is what I have found online, and with the help of you guy's so far. I am fairly confident that this is a gold 64 sport fury Max Wedge 4 speed car. Does anyone have the Darrel Davis book for 64 that could help me out checking the VIN number? This is the original color of the car in the picture.
