Neutral/safety switch wiring

The original automatic transmission neutral safety switch in a 1966 Satellite had a single contact which connects to the starter relay "G" pin. If a later transmission, or a later three pin switch and the associated internal manual lever assembly has been installed, the center pin/wire is connected to the starter relay "G" pin and the outer pins/wires connect to the reverse lamps and key switched +12 volts. The order of connection for the outer pins does not matter. The reverse lamp switch in 1966 was on the column for column shift or in the console on the console shifter. Connecting the outer pins to the original reverse switch wires, if present, is the simplest approach.

If you are using a later style valve body wit a 3 pin switch. The center pin goes to the ground pin on the relay to allow crank in N & P only. The 2 outer pins are for reverse lights. One is key on power, the other goes to the lights. In your case the factory revese wiring is at the shifter. So if the shifter is stock you can just leave it. Or extend the harness to the trans switch if using an aftermarket shifter. Also possible an aftermarket shifter will have either a reverse lamp or neutral switch built in.
