New brake install

Hopefully the disc/drum combo valve will fix the problem. Now the hard part will be getting the old out!

Yeah, it’s factory fresh from 1967, I already feel my knuckles getting scraped!

I have installed a few disc brake conversion and never heard of any of this. The proportioning valve should not make any difference when pedal is pressed. Yes it does change pressure front to back, but it shouldn't keep it from working on a hard press. When brake pedal pressed and held is it fading?

No, when pumped it holds just fine. Trust me, I’ve been scratching my head on this since Thursday. Going to try 1 more trick before I tear out the old combo valve.

It could be the linkage between the pedal and the master cylinder or the rod out the front of the booster. it should almost touch the piston of the master cylinder, but not touch.

I’ve adjusted the booster out and I’m back to where it was when I took it out the box. I’ll see if the cab side of booster linkage can be adjusted, it’s the factory style Z linkage, not sure if that can be adjusted.

I was able to get the bottom fitting off and clear fluid came out slowly then I had my son press the pedal and more fluid came out, still clear.[/QUOTE

Your on the right track with removing the old combo valve, but I have to ask were is the new proportionate valve? Shouldn't it be in the line of the rear brake line

Gravity bled all 4 and it takes 20 pumps to not have the pedal sink to the floor. I’ve gone through 2 quarts of brake fluid, and my vacuum pump hasn’t been getting the job done. So I ordered a disc/drum combo valve from Dr. Diff. Pirate Jack is sending another mc, but I already installed one from Oreily’s cause the PJ mc just didn’t seem to get the job done.

Where’s my BFH?!

Gonna pull the calipers and put a block in between the pad and see if I get air out.

Were is the proportionate valve that came with the kit? You need a new distribution block with the low brake warning.
If the master is bled with what looks like good flow that's it. You should not have to pull calipers.
Something is wrong and I think you have to start at that master and work back.

The valve that came with the kit is an adjustable valve for the rear brake line, that’s all it does.

I didn’t. No reason to use it.

That factory drum/drum block/combo valve is there. Yes it has the wire for the warning light, which is not on when the key is turned. It did go on when I unbolted the old mc, so it does work. It is also centered, otherwise it would be on.

Just finished bleeding the front calipers with them off so the bleeder was at the absolute highest point. Still hasn’t made a damn difference.

This is the 2nd mc, Pirate Jack is sending another one. I find it hard to believe that 2 mc’s from opposite sides of the country are both bad. When that one gets here, I’ll try it. After that, if I still don’t have a pedal then the new combo valve from Dr. Diff, which is a disc/drum set up, will go in. If that doesn’t work, well, I’m out of options unless I plumb all new lines with a Wilwood adjustable proportion valve. I know that will fix these brakes!

Here’s the factory drum/drum combo valve. Going to be a pain to change it!

Taking off the calipers so I could get the bleeder to its highest point did NOT work. Ughhhh!!

I was mistaken on my post above, it did work! Hot damn!

So I have s great pedal with the engine off, engine running, not so good. I have 2 sets of linkage, supposedly 1 for B body and 1 E body. Is there a difference? I can’t really tell by looking at them.
