Ordered replacement carpet for my Charger from Legendary. After pulling the carpet out of the box it was so badly wrinkled and creased that even after leaving out of the box unfolded for a week the crease in the rubber-like backing didn't relax. I sent photos to Legendary and they had it replaced with another box of carpet. The second box of carpet came yesterday and although the front piece was better relative to the creases, the back piece is still creased and wrinkled like the first set of carpeting I received. Is this typical and what I should expect from Legendary or any other restoration carpet supplier? Is this as good as it gets? I would gladly pay for a bigger box to have the carpet shipped flat and not rolled up and jammed into a box. Is there a better source for carpetting than Legendary?

ECS sells carpet flat shipped.

I thought ACC was the only carpet MFG left.

Is this thread saying there are two more?

ACC is the only one. ECS special orders and ships ACC carpet flat. Legendary just sells ACC carpet, OP likley got one that has been rolled up in a box for a long time.

ACC for both my cars,RockAuto

Try setting it outside in the sun for a few days to see if that relaxes the fibers. I think that will help.

Have a steamer? Those work wonders on most of those issues when your installing it.

I used a hair dryer to gently warm my carpet and it really helped. Just go easy with heat. A steamer would be ideal but I didn’t have one when I did my carpet.

I had the same problem with the carpet in my 74 Charger. I reoved the carpet from the box and installed it right away in the car. I placed heavy carboard and a tarp over it and then installed the rest of the interior while kneeling and in general working on the carpet installing the headliner, dash, steering column, panels, etc. over the next 12 months. By the time I was done, it was showing no creases. I installed the seats last. It looks great. If you don't have the time, then steam it.

Buy yourself a heat gun. They are cheap and very effective. Useful for other stuff too.

Yes, my Legendary carpet was pretty wrinkled even after laying flat for a couple of weeks. I used a heat gun and weighted a few areas to get them to lay flatter. Didn’t try a steamer. That may be the missing key.

ACC is the only manufacturer for the Mopar line of reproduction carpet. ACC stopped offering the carpet to ECS approximately six years ago due to the extra efforts required to handle the carpet in which ECS requested in its shipped "flat" method.

The mass backed carpet seems to hold its shape better, but requires more installation effort. We only drop ship the carpet so as not to have carpet crammed into a box for months prior to shipping. That way, the carpet is freshly cut and molded and less likely to have wrinkles from months of being crammed into the box. Also, as soon as it arrives, remove from box and lay out flat. As others have stated, a hair blower, heat gun or steamer will make things easier.

When I helped my buddy install his carpeting from ACC into his 69 Charger, we used a heat gun and laid bricks wrapped in grocery bags. Worked out pretty well.
