ok gents....and Mr. Cranium..( ...had to....forgive me). I am in the market for a complete new exhaust for my stock 70 RR. the pipes on it now are 2-1/4 and it has the stock exhaust manifolds and i am NOT going to put headers on it.. i was thinking about making it 2-1/2. Some YO-YO welded the entire thing, front to back, so cutting the mufflers off and getting new ones to fit is out of the question so i HAVE to go new. I am thinking about Flow master 40's. i dont want it to be annoying OBNOXIOUSLY loud, but i want a good rumbly idle and when i step on it i want it to be heard. i went to a muffler place and was quoted $600.00 and he said it would take all day. i live alone and have nobody to run me and the car down there...(30 miles away).... and pick me up and run me down there again to get it so i am going to do this myself...( i swore years ago i would NEVER do another exhaust)... but im gonna. heres what im looking for:

2-1/2" system
flow master 40's
all new clamps and hangers.
cross tube( H pipe before the mufflers)

heres the dilemma...... can i use my 2-1/4 pipes coming off the manifolds.......cut them where they need to be cut, and go 2-1/2 after that incorporating the H pipe? and where can i get such a system??? i looked EVERYWHEREEEEEEEEEEE.

signed....Perplexed in Pittsburgh

Well, TTI makes a kit I think but it's a lot more than $200.00. Accurate Exhaust makes one too and also expensive. I would see about having some down pipes made to connect to that Summit system.

i just may end up having to do something like that....OR....sit in a muffler shop for 8 hours...EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEK!

I bought that summit system and had to have it welded up the supposed pre bent pipes did not fit just right and the muffs hung down way too much, be careful and get help if doing it yourself it is very hard to do under the car.

They ended up replacing about 5 ft of pipe from the kit in order to make it work. but only cost me 100 but he did shitty welds(looks like chunky peanut butter and leaks in 3 spots) which I now have to go somewhere else to have fixed when i switch to magnaflows another 2-300 im sure sounds good when your on it though listen to the vid lol

yeah big man...exhausts are always a pain in the ***,,,thats why i swore i would never do it again. i think im best off just taking it to that muffler shop and let the guy do it. they have the benders and all the fun stuff right there!

Get out your wallet and put TTI Headers on it, followed by QTP electric cut-outs then Dynomax Superturbos. On the TTI's go all the way with the ceramic/polished. You will have the best of all worlds. Car Show entry rumpity rump, and no-drone cruising on the highway. Less weight and cooler under the hood temps too.

DUDE..............................seriously.....WHYYYYYY do all that when i can just easily put a JET ENGINE IN IT ??? thanx for all the "insight", but i just want a new exhaust with a bit more noise. thanx!

I have no experience with the Summit system but if it's close you should be able to make it work. I mean it's just pipes after all. Perhaps mocking it up at your place to check the fit and for any real obvious FUBARS then throw it all in the trunk and have the muffler guy make the down pipes and weld it together. If it fits really well it could save several hours of bending time if all he has to do is align everything and weld it. If you find the system is way off then put it back in the box and return it and have the muffler guy start from scratch. Just a thought.

I put the American Thunder Flowmaster Muscle car 3" header back system w/H-pipe on a bunch of my cars now, they fit near perfect, with no issues at all, even going over the axle & out the back, all slip fit then either clamp or weld in place, all in the garage in an afternoon, with the stock manifolds, I just needed a trip to the muffler shop to get a couple of slight bends out of the cut off waste piece of pipe from the kit, to get the pipes to line up... I also have used the same type 3" Flowmaster kit with 68-70 383/440HP manifolds, I ordered 3" down pipes from TTI, you need to know what casting #'s the manifolds are to order, they are kind of pricey for just down pipes, with some mild mods Flowmaster's kit fit either type system very easily... $550-$600 easily for a 3" Flowmaster system including, mandrel bent pipes & tail pipes, H-pipe, hangers, clamps, mufflers & shipping& a little less for a 2.5" mandrel bent system "probably"... If someone is going to do the whole 2.5" system for you at a muffler shop for $600 that's not that bad, that system probably won't be mandrel bent tubing though...

I put the 2-1/2" TTI set on my Plymouth and love it! The pipes fit the HiPo manifolds perfectly. Figure about 600 bucks shipped to your door.

SCREW IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! im just gonna bite the bullet and take it to a shop and have them do it!

You probably wont regret that, Im sure you can do it but the time and the work, and the neighbors wondering why your screaming and all that? naa, you wont be sorry. Sure hope you'll be good guy and let us hear them!! Ill add please for good measure.
