Welcome from NM. You picked the right kind of car...and the right forum to figure everything out...lots of knowledge on here.
yea, from my research, I believe it was on the hemi's and the high performance/police package 440's. I wanted to go with turquoise but my dad didn't really care for that color and believe the orange would look better with the plumb crazy purple. If it were a chalk mark resto with numbers matching drivetrain, I would do the correct turquoise. Keep a lookout for those r/t nameplates, they'll most likely be going up for sale. The guy we got the car from was going to do an R/T clone but there were too many variables that needed changed on an already painted area which changed my mind so it's going to be a sinister matte black with the purple with all badging/trim deleted minus the "dodge" letters on rear tail panel since the holes are already there and we have all the letters except for a "D" and we also got brand new white interior upholstery that came with car.In '68 a big block B body engine (except Hemi) would be turquoise. Looks like you got some good parts, I don't think they make the Crane gold rockers anymore, and the R/T door emblems are hard to find too.
thank you, and yes they are. I'm a little out of my wheelhouse when it comes to mopar. Still trying to figure out the best 4-speed setup to go behind the 440 right now.Welcome from NM. You picked the right kind of car...and the right forum to figure everything out...lots of knowledge on here.
understandable, we're not doing anything crazy afaik, it will still be period correct other than the matte black body color and a 440 engine pushing 500+hp is pretty high performance for the street imo. here's what the trim tag decoded to...Painting it weird colors won't increase, or maintain invested dollars. Just saying.
that's awesome, gonna post it with the console in the for sale section and see if I can swap for a pistol grip shifter and box w/o console, thanks!
from what I just read on "the other site" it was a 1 year only thing on chryslers in '66 and only the ones with the light option making it "super rare"
no worries, just trying to go by what I've seen online and posted to this site. trying to be as accurate as possible but guess there's a lot of misinformation out there, even on repop sites selling what I have with the same names/models.Awesome project. Original pistol grips in decent shape are really hard to come by for a good price unless they're all rusty and scratched up. You'll need the 1970 b body pistol grip non conosole handle. Not sure how good they are but they reproduce them for a cheaper price than you'll find a decent original unless you get lucky. The shift mechanisms are easier to find. You'll want to find a correct one for a b body with either 6535 or 7174 reverse levers. I'm guessing one with the 7174 reverse lever shifter is better since that's what was used with the 1970 pistol grip.
Not to burst your bubble but your console will probably bring $350 or $400 on a good day unless that lighter is something really special.
