It may take a minute to read through but there is a LOT of info in the build with more in depth questions answered supported by pics. The synopsis you are asking for is fine but still isn't enough to make the decision to take on a project like this......unless you are like me and like figuring it all out on your own.
 
I hear what you are saying, however if you are someone thinking about this swap and coming from a place where you really don't know what you don't know, it is very confusing to try and read multiple build threads bc each build is unique. I was/am trying to get something that a person could look through and get an idea of which year/model engine meets their needs, issues surrounding it etc. in a short concise manner. Yes, I get that this bullet point list does not completely capture the entire swap or the challenges with it, but it would provide some trends, common items, etc. People could look at specific models such as the 6.1 or 6.4 vs the 5.7, which ECM/PCM seems to be the most used, common obstacles, etc.

A single build thread focuses on a specific car, engine, builder whereas something like this list captures multiple builds in one thread. I should have added a bullet point for the link to a build thread so that people could post that; I will edit it.

I really appreciate you taking the time to fill this out, it is very helpful. Did the trans have to be modified at all to work? I am in the planning stages of putting a G3 into my 71 Charger I am building and will be using a A833.

No. I didn't have to modify anything, but I will say that there are two things that I learned in the process....

#1. Be careful when bolting on the trans to the engine. If you don't do a runout to ensure the engine and tranny fit flush, you could have an alignment issue when trying to line up the drivetrain. I had to use alignment dowls to get the tranny to sit flush. The bellhousing, I guess, wasn't true causing the issue.

#2. If you use a hydraulic clutch setup, be sure and plan for your pedal ratio. Using stock pedals create some geometry issues. If I had it to do over, I would have gone with a Wilwood Brake/Clutch pedal setup. The clutch is stiff.

Jonas - thanks again, that is really interesting information. I did a hyd clutch in my 73 Cuda, however I didn't use a hyd TB, I used a slave cylinder set up and it is stiff as hell. I have been racking my brain trying to figure out why it is this way.

Good advice on the alignment, I will certainly pay attention to that.

I would start by looking at the bore size on the slave cylinder as a starting point - just like a brake master cylinder the size effects pedal pressure.

I'm trying to figure out the stock system to avoid paying the price of the hotwire system, but expect to have to go there. Will need the TCU portion of the system either way, since the 2007 ECU will not run the 8HP70
  • What would you have done differently: Nothing at this time
  • How do you like it: Car is in the body shop, so it is not in the car yet. Will know by summer 2025

  • What modifications were required to the car to make the hemi fit/work: center sump oil pan, 45 degree oil filter adapter, modified dip stick and tube, radiator and electric fans, modified tunnel, New steel fuel tank with in tank fuel pump, fuel lines and regulator.
  • Biggest challenge/problem encountered and how it was resolved or overcome: When I did my swap back in 2014, I bought a kit from Bouchillon Performance since they convinced me they knew what they were doing. While I had a few snags with their kit, most of it worked out. When I got it running, the computer was sending 15.1 volts to the system. I tried convincing Bouchillon the problem was in the computer but they blamed it on my wiring. After a few months of trial & error I finally got some readings of the codes that were set. One of them was showing that my battery ambient temperature was at -83 degrees F. It turns out Bouchillon's guru needed to disable that feature in the computer since I guess it was trying to warm up my battery. Once they got that feature disabled, everything works as it should.
  • What would you have done differently: In 2014 the Nag 1 transmission was not a viable install but those issues have been since dealt with. If I had it to do now, I would use the Nag 1 because of it being a better transmission and it's smaller size and better gear ratio. Also, I would have swapped in a lumpier cam in place of the stock one. Not because of performance but because the stock 6.1 sounds a little too tame IMO.
  • How do you like it: I love it. I like the performance, the fuel mileage, the grunt from the first two gears and the rpms at highway speeds. Also the fact that it can sit for months and start and idle with no hesitation. For me, it is the best of both worlds Old and New and looks stock until you open the hood. It ran a 12.88 at 103 mph on street tires in its only pass at Rock Falls raceway starting out in drive and shifting when it wanted with the AC on. Good enough for my old bones.
  • Updates since the initial build: The Hemi didn't like the Corvette fuel regulator / filter provided by Bouchillon so I opted for an adjustable regulator with gauge for fine tuning. I also updated the Throttle body with an Arrington Performance 85mm unit. I didn't care for the electric fans running at full speed so I bought a H150 controller from Auto Cool Guy at Radio Research LTD. That enable me to ditch the two 30A relays for the fans since the controller doesn't need them and ramps up the speed slowly.

  • Biggest challenge/problem encountered and how it was resolved or overcome: #1 To get the proper drive line angle measured at the transmission output shaft I had to make my own mounting tabs that attach to the transmission. The USCT mounting tabs would have made the spool mounts sit very low which would interfere with the exhaust and would have given very little surface contact to weld them to the perimeter tunnel. #2 SRV module interfered with firewall/wiper motor bulge. Fab’d up clearance.
  • What would you have done differently: Swapped out the TR6060 to T56 Magnum for mounting options, drive shaft options, shifter mount base plate options.
  • How do you like it: Not yet Complete
