Mine has the msd box. Not familiar with them. Are they trouble free?
It depends. The newer stuff does have more of a failure rate than the old, US production stuff. In the future, I'll be putting an OE distributor in with an HEI module conversion. Mopar boxes have problems too unless you get an old one. Like the MSD stuff.
 
Where would I find the build date?
The date is stamped on the same pad. Picture doesn’t show very well. Oops. There will also be a casting date on the passenger side of the block, below the heads.
Other guys know more about the 68’s than I do. Post pictures of the sides of the block, I think there is a stamping at the back of the block. There should also be a stamping/ Serial number on a flat machined pad on the passenger side of the block.
Hopefully someone will add more information.

Quite a few owners have success with pertronics conversions.
