Street Legal Dragway is scheduled to open September 22 and will only let street legal vehicles race. Oh yeah, the track is only 330-feet long (1/16 mile) and has a 670-foot long shutdown area.
The aim of the new track is to help curtail illegal street racing.

Rules:
  • Cars/Motorcycles must be Registered & Insured
  • Cars/Motorcycles must have working muffler(s)
  • Cars/Motorcycles must use DOT radial tires
  • Cars/Motorcycles must be in safe working order
  • Cars/Motorcycles must be driven in (no trailers allowed in the pits)
  • Drivers must have a valid Drivers License
Street Legal Dragway is located in Perris, CA. Close to existing Perris Auto Speedway, a 1/2-mile clay oval track located on the Lake Perris Fairgrounds.
Let's hope it's successful.

Be interesting to see if it curtails street racing. I hope it's a success

Good news they need something...
especially something legal

Sounds like a place (330' Distance, not really enough shutdown thou)
I raced there quite a bit back in the late 70s into later 80s...
I lived in Concord or Antioch, both neighboring towns, east & west...
We called 'Nairobi' Nationals (not the real name, it was more derogitory)
in Pittsburg Ca...
Right off hwy-4, going inland from the hwy-4 frontage road
the Pittsburg police would let it run...
Almost every weekend, it wasn't wet...
People of all types colors/creeds, hotrods, drag cars, streetcars,
pick ups, 4x4s in low range, you name it, it ran there,
"everyone org. got along"...
For a decade or more, always lots of 'betting/wagers' constantly too

Really short track, but a place to get people together
& not worry about the PoPo, 'mostly'

It was sort of fun, while it lasted
just way too short...
(people would usually just set up races, at longer places, when their race was close)
Later years too many 'gangs/thugs' & nefarious types, 'it was dark'
the typical inner-city illegal guns & illegal drugs,
many associated with that specific area...
Bad types gathered, pretty much took it over & killed it off
Police shut it down altogether...

Only thing the cops org. cared about was registration for cars
driving on public roads, few people would tow stuff in from time to time...
The cops mostly CHP, not Pittsburg LEOs, would stay down the street
by the freeway on-off ramps & pop people without current regs.
