Need some guidance.

I have chance to buy a 2014 Dodge tk 5.7 and automatic trans (2 wd) with all the accessories. Are there any disadvantages to this combination??? What trans is this? and will it hold up to moderate HP? There is a possibility that I can also pickup a 2014 Challenger 5.7 and 6sp, but not sure at this time. I would like to install it in a 79 Volare Wgn. Would either one of these make a good combination???

I know there is variable timing and some other issues to be addressed. I know the pan has to be changed and is there any wiring harness's available or what has to be done with the wiring.

To best answer this, and I know you have another thread on this too, but you should tell us what your goal is. The 2014 is going to be multiple displacement, variable valve timing, maybe variable runner length and an 8 speed automatic. It would be an excellent combination but new enough to prevent you from easy recalibration and a stand alone harness.

If you just want modern performance, fuel injection and a reliable package...then I would say go with a earlier 5.7. Like many of us here that have done the swap, I installed an early engine with no MDS, VVT etc. This makes the swap a whole lot easier and still runs like a scalded cat. Rather than spend a few extra thousand on the newer package, why not spend that money on rebuilding an 03-08 engine, new cam, porting and some other goodies. You'd probably end up with less invested and more horsepower.

And on top of all that, those transmissions will need u to cut ur floor board to fit.. especially a six speed.
But, it's worth it to have the overdrive.
