I have a 440 with the code 4006630-0-440-8. 7T 440 E 5 23 x. Is this a good motor to build ?

-8 is the number of individual cylinder core changes have been performed on that original block core. Might be a good idea to get a sonic check to see if there is significant core shift, if you are thinking of boring the block oversize. "T" is Trenton engine plant?

Yes, providing the block passed the magnaflux testing for cracks and the bores are true and haven't been excessively overbored, it's a great foundation for a build. Note that you will need to ensure you have the later model crank/bearings for the revised thrust bearing design in later 440 blocks.

Speaking of bores, there has been much written in the past about the later ('76 and up) blocks being "this wall" and restricted to a .020 overbore at the max, however more recent sonic testing data indicates that this to be more false than true. Regardless, if it needs bored always opt for the very minimum to clean it up for the build. Please share some pics of the build as you progress and good luck!

I was told by a few sources that it's not the case. It means that it's the pattern number where that block was poured. Easy to identify if there is a problem.
