Hows it goin guys. My names Jared and I am the proud owner of a 1973 Plymouth Sebring Satellite that I bought out of some dudes yard with rust in the quarter panels, a smashed PS fender, tears in the seats, a 318/2bbl/904/10bolt rearend, a leaky gas tank, an immense amount of mechanical issues and neglect, and miscellaneous creatures living under the seats. The color has been described as "baby s**t blue" with a dark blue vinyl top, with rust bubbling up from the roof underneath. My girlfriend, who I was dating at the time I bought the car last summer, refused to ride in it and constantly tried to force me to sell it. No I'm not joking, this is one thing that lead to our breakup. That's right, I chose my car over a girl. And I have never once regretted it.

My previous car was a 2004 Dodge Rumble Bee with a Procharger kit and various performance mods. It was number 4870 of roughly 5000 built my year, and it was quite a machine. I drove it all the way through high school, and had lots of good times, but when I moved out of my parents house to start college, living on my own, and paying my own bills, my dad hung on to the truck because it was in his name and he wanted me to learn to work for the things I own. Truth is, I'm more proud of the Satellite I bought with the money I busted my *** to make rather than a gorgeous truck that was handed to me, so I guess my dad made the right choice. He's a pretty wise dude.

Despite it's various issues, my Satellite is without a doubt my favorite thing I have ever spent money on, my motorcycle coming in somewhere second. I bought it as a yard car, and within a week had it cleaned up, running, and driving. It took a new radiator, new hoses, many antifreeze flushes, a new thermostat, a carb cleaning, a few gallons of Seafoam, and more recently, a new fuel tank. I took a needle and thread and stitched the holes in the seats closed. I keep my car washed, waxed, vaccumed, and polished, and you would be surprised how much of a difference it can make.

I have a new fuel tank on the way via eBay, and besides that, I trust my car to take me across the country if need be. I've done all the work myself, with lots of help from my veteran hotrodder father, and the car is truly really reliable. I recently bought a new fender and am about to begin body work, and should have the car painted by January of February of next year. Next will be interior, then hopefully a drivetrain swap to a 360/727/9 1/2 rearend with disc brakes. All I really need is money, which is hard to come by these days, so I work 2 jobs so I can make the cash to fix up my car a little at a time. I also know a lot of people who are fabricators and welders, so everything on my car is being done the right way, and also at no cost to me other than materials and of course a few cases of beer.

I'm currently attending UCF to attain my mechanical engineering degree, and intend to be a car designer as a career. I draw cars as a hobby, and am featured in a gallery over on the coast, which I'm really excited about. I believe that everyone should own a car that reflects their personality, and my goal is to one day design cars that can do just that for people.

God's given me a lot of cool things in my life. The Satellite is one of em. It may not be the prettiest, it may not be the fastest, but it's mine 100% and I love it. I realize that these cars arent exactly worth a lot of money, even fully restored, which is part of the reason I've taken it upon myself to keep the car and fix it up, because I know there's not a lot of people who would put in the blood sweat and tears on a 73 Sebring Satellite orig. 318 car. Guess you could say it needs me :) haha

Well that's about me. Cant wait to get on the forum and hopefully learn more about my car, and check out what all you folks have lurking in your garages! Thanks everyone

-Jared

Welcome aboard Jared.. Sounds like you are pretty excited, good thing for sure. You will have lots of info here and help if you need it, hope you'll keep us updated..Have fun and enjoy!!!

I keep thinking of the rear end you mentioned as part of the drive train you may swap out,
"then hopefully a drivetrain swap to a 360/727/9 1/2 rear end with disc brakes"
The reason i wanted to ask is i never heard of a Chrysler 9 1/2... I have in my 73 Satellite the 9 1/4 and i wanted to see about getting a bit lower gears and spoke to a couple members here that told me the 9 1/4 is a good rear end but its hard to find parts for them, if the 9 1/4 is the one you wanted i thought you would benefit knowing about getting the parts for one of them..

Welcome to the site!

My first car was a 1973 Roadrunner, so it is basically the same car you have. I recently gave it to my son as his first car, and he is beginning to love it as I do. Of couse, back when I bought it the purchase price was $400, but those were different times!

It is awesome that you are excited about your Satellite, and I think the body style looks great.

While you engine swaps sound good, just some more simple (and cheaper) changes like a 4 barrel intake manifold and carb, as well as some headers should increase power quite a bit. One thing to think about is that full length headers for these cars with small blocks have three tubes that run BELOW the steering linkage, so they have a tendency to hit the pavement when the suspension bottoms out. Keep that in mind if you want headers.

I uploaded a (lousy) picture of the 73. With some paint and stripes, you can add some of the same pizzazz to yours.

Best of luck with it!

Hawk

Welcome to FBBO Jared. Your father does indeed sound like a smart fella. This is one of the best places on the internet to get info and ideas for a 71 to 74 B body.

It's also THE best place to view exceptional photos of gondolas posing in front of cool cars. :)

Looks great to me man... Your son will never forget his first car! Very nice.

The 9 1/2 is a rearend found in newer model Dodge Dakotas. It's a really common swap for older A-bodies but I've read a couple guys on line who have swapped em into their Chargers. Supposedly, its a really tough rearend and a very easy swap, PLUS it has rear disc brakes, which would be pretty cool considering then I would have 4 wheel disc.

Thanks for all the welcomes everyone! :) glad to be here

Thats a pretty slick ride! Your son is a lucky guy to have one of those for a daily driver :) slapsticks are fun for sure.

I'm actually considering painting mine yellow like yours, but its really between that, Vitamin C(Hemi Orange), or kind of a 70s dull gold. I want to do the hood black all the way up to the grille and then some sort of black stripe. If I do it gold, I'll kind of go for more of a sinister stealthy look, whereas if I choose a brighter color, I'm gonna make it as flashy and wicked looking as I can. Black is always an option, but im just afraid I wont be able to get the body as perfect as I'd like to be able to have a nice glossy black finish....

I'll give you a ride on the gondola if you ask nicely... :icon_winkle:

Sounds like you have some good ideas. I agree with you that while black is second to none when clean, (a) it very easily shows flaws and (b) it stays clean for about 0.05 seconds after you wash it! A lighter color does a much better job of hiding dirt and dings and might be better for a driver.

Just throwing options out there - if you like the black hood idea AND a stripe, maybe look at the 71-71 stripes for the rear quarters...

Have fun!

Thanks!

Thank you, Ive been pondering on what exactly to do to mine, I want a different set up and have spoken to a few people about it. Please, If you do this, post a update if you would, id be interested, as you said it might be a good way to go. And i do apologize for the confusion!!

Welcome aboard Jared, and nice intro. Good decision on ditching the dane. Even with all the cosmetic/mechanical issues with your satty, it will probably still give you less headaches than that broad would in the end..

Have fun-Prop
