New U-Haul trailer

I've used one several times and they are built like a tank. I ended up buying a heavy duty tow dolly. Used it several times, last time going to Chicago and back for a car. I gave it to a friend to use and store for me over ten years ago. Last time I saw it............

I've seen exactly ONE ex-U-Haul trailer in private ownership in over 50 years of paying attention to that kind of stuff.
i have 1, bought it years ago from a guy who bought it from U-haul direct,1 of the last 1's they sold to the public before they stopped the practice due to Liability . he used to haul his GTO to hot august nites every year before they got too old to do it, it was on Craigs list... i threw away the surge brake and converted it to Electric brakes. and yes its Registered in my name, its just for car hauling as its the open deck model...

I used one of the older "tank" models to get my Charger back in '20. Got it "round trip" up here in MD, towed it down to FL, loaded the Charger and came back to MD. 80mph behind my Cummins with no problems legal or otherwise. I had one of my own spares with me, and used my own straps. The only issue was when I was headed south (empty), I hear this rattling/scraping noise every time a car passed me (at the time we were in traffic going slow, and I had the windows open). Finally got curious and got out, and found one of the ramps had come un-pinned and extended itself, and was dragging. I felt like I was in an episode of Knight Rider, waiting for Kitt to drive into the semi! Slid it back in, hooked one of my ratchet straps on it, and moved on. Towed nice enough, no wag, no issues.

ANY of the "resale" Uhaul vehicles - trucks OR trailers - are easy to spot. Kinda like this - we all know what it used to be, and you just can't hide it!

My friend Graham and I towed my GTX down country about 4 hours on another single-axle trailer to get dip-stripped. Towed well behind my 'big-block 3.0litre 4-cyl diesel Toyota van....lol....A/C was used even going up the hills. Nice day, and we had the body wrapped like a cocoon also - to keep the early morning dew and road filth off it.
Had the body sitting on old tyres for cushioning....and strapped down also. The following week, I took Rod, my painter with me to collect it. The body was already coated in protective chemical, but we also added another layer to make sure. Wrapped it again and took it straight back home to get etch-primed.

Both journeys were slightly interrupted near the Dip Stripping location.... for and an hour of driving the off-road skid cars just west of Rotorua.
Hilarious.....took another hour to lose the grins. Those things are hilarious to drive....we were going backwards more than forwards.
