I don't see them doing any of that stuff...
As a life long racer,
NHRA Comp lic. holder 9.99 or better since 1977
been drag racing since 1974-1975, been at best 5.90's @ 227
Ran a bunch of Heads Up door slammer 6, 7 & 8 sec. stuff
or Comp. Classes/Index classes altereds & dragsters,
in some sort of all out tube chassis real racecars,
some with doors & some without doors,
or some day 2 street beater/muscle car etc., been there done that...
a what IF scenario, dreaming ????
I'd like to see them get rid of T/F all together
Maybe bring back Fuel Altered,
have/bring some showmanship back in drag racing
CH3N02/Nitro classes are for big buck operations, rich dudes, big $$ sponsors
unless they go back to;
431ci max, less %'s of Nitro, single fuel pump & mags/plugs etc.,
2 disc clutches, no clutch management systems/drivers assistance etc.,
6:71 blowers, limit the boost/overdrive etc.,
less wing/down-force, a spec-tire etc.,
so the common guy could compete again,
without having a multi-million $$$ sponsorship, a privateer can compete !!
or Maybe have the T/A classes be the top show, let them loose,
let them make as much power as possible !!
Pro-Mod & Top-Sportsman be the top door slammers {
my pers. favorites}
than maybe have a Stock body class of some sort, to replace Pro-Stock
with a 5 year body style limits, factory bodies, not swoopy stuff &
carbon fiber, no $10k per shock/electronic shocks pricey BS...
With everyone running a 0.4 pro-tree, make it simple...
IMO the best of any class is & always be Comp eliminator class,
weight per/ci & specific rules for all engines, cars/classes,
suspensions, tires, windows, cages/bars, body alterations etc.
Super Stock & Stock Elim.
are both cubic $$$$ classes now big $$$ cars & operations
to buy & to operate, it's not 1968 anymore,
it's well over $150k-$200k or more, to get in it today,
it's no longer the little guy privateers, unless they've
owned the car for decades already doing it & spent the $$$ over decades...
I really liked the ol' Pro-Gas 8.50 door-slammers class,
it had a bunch of low buck operations &/or privateers
{
for the times is was a bit pricey to, build a car & actually run
8.50's in the late 70's early 80's},
before it turned to Top-Sportsman, than evolved into Pro-Mod we have now...
Disclaimer;
what I type next is not meant to offend/insult anyone,
it's brutal honesty/facts & truth, please don't take what I say out of context...
IMO the Super classes, 10.90 S/ST, 9.90 S/G, 8.90 S/C
{
S/E 7.90 back in the day, we had rarely any electronics for driver aids}
is throttle stop electronic gadget central, boring as hell to see/watch as a spectator,
Boring to watch some guy launch & kill 1/2 the power for a second or 2
or slam on the brakes at the speed traps, just to run a #/dial in !!
{
again no offense meant to those that run it either, I know someone will be pissed}
Remember it's about filling the seats & the pits
making money for all involved, including the sanctioning bodies,
venders, sponsors & ultimately the car owners, track owners too,
not just filling the pits or seats, it's a business...
Not a very good practice to curtail to just one select group
or just 32-48 cars {
if you include Pro-Mod} & 16 bikes a show/race,
like NHRA currently does...
People want to see a show, like it use to be, a spectacle & some showmanship...
IMO The lower classes & remote control cars are
boring as hell,
{
again no offense meant to anyone running them, but it's boring to watch, for everyone else anyway}
nobody except the people driving them, or their crew/families/friends
really care at all...
Maybe why the seats are always empty watching pros in the pits instead !!
IMO the average spectators don't pay to see them cars run,
they pay to see the fast cars, cars that wheelie, cars with names,
cars that make a ton of smoke & noise, IMO mostly heads up classes too,
run what you brung & see who's fastest, that's drag racing as it's meant to be...
ya'll have a nice day now
