i have long heard that you absolutely cannot use nitrous oxide with the KB pistons, however when you get the instructions that they give you ring gap specs for a nitrous motor.so what gives? I am not talking about a huge 2 stage fogger system either, just a 150 horse plate system. I am using the KB236 pistons with the moly rings, steel crank H beam rods and stealth heads from 440 source.305 H comp cam and a eddy torkerII intake and an 850 DP.

its not the brand of piston, its the type.most forced induction(nitros is a form of that)require forged pistons due to increased stress and heat created.not sure which you have, but 150 shot is not too powerful, and even a cast piston will hold up to very limited use.

Do your homework on the NOS or you could melt down a forged piston motor pretty easily even with a 150 shot. The difference is that a forged piston will be a little bit more forgiving with a screw up where the others will not.

I am not hesitant to tell you that the pistons can handle a 150 shot without a problem. The hesitation I have is not the pistons but the tune and fuel delivery. You can make short work of a nice engine with a lean condition or timing. Safe conditions is 7 psi for engine and 5 psi for fuel side of nitrous plate. Safe timing would be to remove 2 degrees for every 50 horsepower totalling 6 degrees for 150 hp. Most 125 horse systems can be run without removing timing but it is safe to remove the timing and read the plugs as you add the timing back or remove fuel pressure. Once a bottle baby I guess always...

I have installed systems up to 90HP shot with no issues with KB's. Anything above that I have not tested.

The issue is detonation with a kb hyper piston will result in 1 chance as even with cast you'll get more than 1 chance at detonation.

So keeping that in mind and you're buying pistons now is the time to lose that option and get a better piston
