No more Saturday mail delivery

Our founding fathers saw to it that the organization that evolved into the USPS was created and heavily subsidized...are you ready...to make sure that newspapers, especially those that printed dissenting opinions on the government, could be delivered outside of their normal localized markets.

USPS
Social Security
Medicare

Three government programs that were done right.

Why are they all under attack, and by whom?

They are under attack because they are miserable failures. There is no constitutional basis for medicare or SSI and the programs are beyond broke. And if the post office is too costly, then it should go too. Private companies will fill the void. Competition in the market placed will drive down prices.

And you know what else? Get this....I have 35 that's THIRTY FIVE safe driving award pins. He would have gotten 36, but he retired his 36th year to take care of mama while she was dying with cancer. He was a giant of a man in every respect. I can only hope to become his shadow. I miss him with every fiber of my being.

Tellin you about that brought back a memory of an incident that happened to him once. A cop once tagged his mail truck while he was parked on the sidewalk robbin a box downtown. Rather than pay his ticket like a good little soldier in line, he chose to take it to court and fight it. His reasoning to the judge was that a mail truck carries the same importance as any other government vehicle including and up to emergency vehicles, because his job was delivering the mail NO MATTER WHAT. The judge slammed his gavel and said "MAILMAN, YOU'RE RIGHT! CASE DISMISSED!" Daddy was dead right, too.

That was the day when Real Men worked, carried their bag and gave 100%. they even looked the part pressed uniform, tie, badge & polished shoes! they had our respect because they respected themselves.
when I was a kid we wanted to be a Policeman, fireman, or postman....etc. , Because He took pride in his work.

hope this all makes sense

LOL.. the people who wrote the constitution do not live in todays world. I love that piece of paper and all it stands for but lets be real about things. Our founding fathers had no clue what was coming 250 years ago. Income taxes arent on there either as well a lot of other things. Its nice to wave it around but it isnt relative in some discussions.

And NO : UPS and Fed Ex will have then have cornered the market and you will not see a letter carried for less than a buck. You will not see a startup company that can get up and running and be profitable. Bashing the Post Office with a shovel is not smart at all...LOL
You think things are expensive now??? Wait til the cost to ship goes up without them in the market... huge effing mistake is what that would be

The reason SSI and Medicare are under attack are different.

SSI.. people are living longer than expected when the program was started and medicare is all the fraud buy the people. Have some honest doctors and insurance and citizenry and it isnt failing

Not going to argue politics either but lets look at it for what it is

The union and benefits and continued rising cost to maintain that fleet and being the cheapest form of shipping is what got them in trouble. De unionize and buy out the old timers and put a new work force in there based on performance.
There is a celing as well on pay scale.. Letter carrier do not get 18/hr... its unskilled labor... you get 15 max after 10 yrs service if you're lucky if I run the place

Makes perfect sense to me Sonny... Unfortunately it's no longer like that either... way overpaid, mismanaged & entitled now

Yes, the law of the land is not relevant. Love that one. The founders understood all too well the threat posed to individual liberty and that is why the constitution was written to protect those liberty's. Its relevant in all discusions on the subject.
Unfortunately, much of what the anti-federalists envisioned, and expressed concern for, such as the powers as enumerated being susceptible to unforeseeably expansive interpretation in the future, especially since the power to tax is included in the constitution. They were even laughed at for suggesting that there may even be a time when the central government would lay taxes on income. They were right. It took a 100 years but it happened. The power to tax income most certainly is in the constitution. See the 16th amendment.

There oughtta be no more post office. FEDEX and UPS can do a better job.

I tend to disagree once again.Never a issue here with the postal service and there rates for the most part are cheaper than the others and i do ship a crap load of stuff.

USPS doesn't make a profit, they lose a ton money every year lately, they don't have to profit !!, they are subsidized by Congress Budgeting {ultimately the tax payer} & until that changes, finally wake up & they streamline the process & Union labor/Union benefits, get rid of all the waste & unproductive lazy check collecting employees {Not all of of them, there are a few good employees}, keep the productive workforce... Then they will continue to be able to offer mail services somewhat cheap, continue to spend like drunken' sailors on a binge... Saturdays delivery or not.... it's kind of prototypical of most all Union/Govt. agencies today... just watch any news channel, you will see what I mean...

The bottom line is a lot of people now use the internet to pay bills. I pay almost all of my monthly bills online. I like the post office and I would like to see them stay around. Due to changing technology businesses sometimes have to change how they do business if they want to survive. Saturday delivery probably should have been stopped five years ago. Seems like all I get these days from the post office is junk mail.

oh snap what are we gonna do if our obama bucks dont shows up on friday 894.jpg

I have most of my vendors either email or fax me their invoices, but only a handful of customers ACH (wire) money to me. I suppose that when I retire in 30 years everything will be paperless with money directly deposited and invoices sent and paid online. I still print out about 500 checks per week to my vendors and sign each one of them the old fashioned way, but pay bills online for my personal expenses. The USPS is a dinosaur an the banks are next to follow in the sense of an actual building with people working in it.
