No power to starter or coil.

I pulled the 318 from my 74 Roadrunner about a year ago. It was running at the time. Finally got it back in, got everything (I think) hooked up, tried the starter, and... nothing. The starter will crank if it's jumped, but it has no spark.

I do get power to most things when I turn the key on.

Does anyone have any ideas of where to start?

Check fire wall socket to make sure wiring harness is fully plugged in. Maybe pull it out and reset it to make good contact. Then check at ballast resistor to see if 6-8 volts with the key in the RUN position.

Check over your wiring,
also like Tony said check the bulk head connection.
Also ck the starter relay .

Sounds like lacking ground on starter relay coming from the neutral safety switch.

Specifically, look at the solid blue (run +) and solid brown (crank +) wires from the bulkhead

74 had the seat belt interlock system, as far as I know that will only keep it from cranking. It can be bypassed if it hasn't been already. If I remember right you connect the yellow wires together at the relay. It is on the firewall with a red reset button on top.

Yes you are correct. Connecting the two yellow wires routes 12V to the starter relay coil. When the neutral safety switch supplies the ground path at the same time, starter should activate. Ign 1 and 2 are needed via other circuits to develop ignition.

Thank you all for your advice.

The previous owner had bypassed the clutch safety switch and I had that wire hooked up incorrectly. Instead of just making a short jumper to ground somewhere on the frame, he took the wire all the way to the battery. When I reattached everything and put the battery in, I hooked the bright red wire up to the positive.

I grounded it and it works now.
