I find it rather annoying when parts are listed in the for sale section and the person stipulates no shipping. Any half wit can see that members are from all over, so why not just put an add in your local area ( craigs list or buy&sell ) as I'm sure anyone looking for parts is not just checking FBBO. Rant over!

I dont get that either. Seems a little lazy on the sellers part.

I can tell you as someone that has sold a lot of parts over the years that some items are just a major pain in the *** to ship. As an example a hood. It can only go truck freight and it better have a crate around it because truckers will stack things on it. So now you have to be a carpenter to ship it. Haul the heavy bastard to a trucking terminal or the buyer has to pay extra for a pick up. Of course the buyer doesn't want to compensate the seller for HIS time to drive it to the terminal. Buyers want to know what the shipping cost is and not many people have a scale available to weigh something like this.

People want rust free southwestern parts but are seldom willing to pay shipping and crating cost.

Sometimes they may have a buddy driving that way with a truck that has room to haul it. This and local or close buyers are what sellers hope for when they advertise parts with no shipping offered.

If they don't offer shipping ask why if you want the item and maybe a solution can be worked out.

A buyer shouldn't have to ask what's on the sellers mind, if the seller is asking for extras for shipping such as crating or delivery charges then he/she should just state this in their add, simple as that. If the seller does not want to ship because it is one kind of pain in the *** or another that they don't want to bother with then put the add in their local paper. It is irritating for those that are looking for parts and find what they need but can't buy and get it because the seller will not ship. I understand there a lots of A-holes out there to deal with but if a seller is putting an add on a global forum then be prepared to ship otherwise keep it in your local area adds.
JMHO.

Quit your whinning:bootyshake:

So you have appointed yourself the offical rule maker for these for sale ads now?

This is a FREE web site for parts ads, people are going to use it to advertise weather it is for local sales or around the world.

Because YOU don't live close enough to pick up doesn't mean a seller can't assume some do. This site is as LOCAL as your location vs. the sellers location, pretty simple really. Just because YOU happen to live further away from a seller that has something you want doesn't mean others don't.

If the seller doesn't see fit to sell under certain circumstances that is their business. The seller is under no obligation to state up front if or where they are willing to ship. Shipping has always be understood to be the buyers responsibility to pay for. I am betting if you REALLY wanted to buy someones goods that did not offer to ship they would allow you to have a service pick up, package, and ship to you, but I am betting you wouldn't want to pay the bill or you wouldn't be complaining about this and rather contacting a seller that states no shipping.

I posted a hood on this website, local pickup only, and a trucker from Iowa came to get it while passing through town. Me, I have friends in a lot of cities across the US and have had some of them pick up parts for me until I can get them. I drove to Detroit to get a bench seat for my Road Runner that was local pickup only - Cleveland is not "local" to Detroit, but it was worth the trip. I think that shipping details in parts listings on FBBO are like the prices in the listings - if you don't like them, move on.

Having listed a couple items that I would not ship I guess i should chime in here. One item was a fiberglass hood - worth maybe $150-$200. 696pack was spot on the money in my thinking at the time too. Even if someone wanted to pay the rediculus freight to ship a $150 hood, I was not about to spend a full day trying to package the darn thing up so it wouldn't get trashed in shipping. It just wasn't worth the effort. I listed it hoping some local buyers might see it and want it. Same with an old 727 I had listed. Worth maybe $100 or so. Even if someone would want to pay another $100 to ship the darn thing, how in the heck do you pack it up for shipping without investing another $100 and half a day?

I am not a big buyer of parts and the few parts I have bought I was more than happy to pay extra for the packaging. As far as whining, you are the one who was complaining about shipping certain items being a pain in the ***. Unlike you I won't make any assumptions about your character because I don't know you but I will say as far as your rule maker remark and your betting assumption of me you can politely shove it up your ***.

YOU made assumptions in your original post about ME and everybody else who posts parts as local pickup only as "half wits", but now you say you won't make assumptions about the character of people you don't know. Make up your mind!

Boo hoo, I find a part and I can't buy it because they do not ship.
Keep looking.
I found a wheel on MOPARTS no shipping but I was local and could pick it up.
Worked for me that time.
Ya just never know.

Shipping big parts just sucks. Nothing bad about putting it up and trying to sell it as "pick up only". You never know till you try.

Yup, exactly! And you don't realize it until you have some big stuff to get rid of ..

Local pickup listed in an add is just fine.
Don't take offense to it.

I second that. I've had parts that I wished people would ship to me, and I've had large parts I wished I wouldn't have committed to ship. Kinda sucks when you see what you need and it's across the country, but that's how it goes sometimes.

Not local....

Don't take offense to it.

It dosen't necessarly mean you have to drive there yourself and pick up the item.... You just have to arrange for a shipper of some sort to get it.... I'm always happy to help load..... Large items that take a half day to package and then drive 60 miles round trip to a shipping dock.... just ain't gonna happen....!

I've sold a LOT of items on here, and I can tell you from experience, MOST people have no problem with having local pick up in the ad. I sold an 8 3/4 disc to disc rear end that I listed "prefer not to ship" to a member in Arkansas. He just happened to be coming through near my area in a few weeks and stopped by and picked it up. I sold a mint hood on here to a member in Michigan, and asked if he could wait a couple weeks because I was coming to Michigan and would deliver it. LOL, I sold a mint decklid to another member here that I actually met in Dayton, OH this morning on my way to Michigan, and am meeting another member in mid-Michigan on Wednesday to deliver two mint fenders. As blufury can attest, I sold a CAP complete front end that I had "pick up only" in the ad... he saw the ad and happened to know a guy who lives less than 45 minutes from me that needed it, but isn't a member here. He put me in touch with his friend and the deal was made. There are always options, depending on if you're willing to wait a couple weeks for someone who is coming near where it is or if the seller is possibly traveling near where you are and may possibly bring it to you. My deals up here this week was pretty lucky, as my trip up here was already planned, just wasn't planning on driving my truck (the deal with the fenders was done first), then, a few days before I was leaving, I got the offer for my deck lid. Both members were right on my way and I charged neither of them shipping (plus I felt WAY better about knowing the "delivered" condition matches perfectly with the "advertised" condition because I am personally handing them off to the buyers). Granted, a lot of people are not in the position to make trips up and down the country often, but if you're willing to be a little patient, you'll find if the buyer wants to get rid of the item badly enough, they will usually help you figure out a way to get the item. Just my experience. BTW, great meeting you this morning Jman65!!! Looking forward to meeting you Wednesday 65DODGE. FBBO is THE best Mopar site... period!
