Hey Guys,

Need your help figuring out why I dont have a spark

1970 RR 383 4spd with Electronic Ignition.

Yesterday the car needed a jump for some reason the battery was dead? (drove it last 2weeks ago with no issues). The car started and ran but once I took off the jumper cables it died (Maybe an alternator?). The bigger problem is when I tried to jump again it would not start., then I checked for spark at the plug and nothing. I immediatley changed the resistor thinking this is the common issue and checked the coil but no spark. I tested the coil by pulling the coil wire and turning on the key and grounding the neg- side to see if I would get a arch to ground and I did but it was very weak. I changed the coil with a new one still very weak spark?????? I decided to put an extra plug on the end of the coil and ground to see the spark and nothing??

Next i pulled the #2 plug and watched as the car was turned over no spark. I'm starting to think that I may have a bad distributor?? What do you guys think??

Thanks

I would get the battery tested then charged or replaced depending on results. Go over all the wiring and then try another ecu. Doubt very highly the dizzy is bad

Ecu

Probably the ignition module. Start by checking with a multimeter in dc voltage mode at the ballast resistor...high side from the battery with key on should be battery voltage. Then, clip alligator leads to the low side and set the meter in a spot you can see from the driver seat. Crank the starter, the meter should flash to a reading. If it reads zero or very low, change the ecu.

I had similar happen to me caused by a short. I carry a spare ballast resistor and an orange mopar box in the trunk. The part is 20 bucks at napa. Since the 70 RR didn't have electronic ignition you can have the parts counter guy search for an ignition module for a 75 RR with a 400ci motor. Good luck.
