When my wife (NH native) first came for a visit, she had much the same reaction.Lmao, when I was in the Marine Corps, the folks down south were super polite. Always said, good morning or how y’all doing. Felt strange at first. “Why are these people, that I don’t know, talking to me?” People don’t do that around here, Boston area. They should. People need to lighten up.
Heck, when I first came back down in '94, so did I.
Edit: Of course, since then, it's become so normal to me that I'm left wondering what's wrong with someone when they DON'T speak.
