Numbers matching 440 bare block ?

I would think as long as it’s the correct date letter for that year. Consider a vehicle with a factory replacement engine under warranty.
I was lucky to find a replacement engine out a salvage car of the same year and model as my 67 GTX,(C 440 HP w/915 heads and 4327S AFB $200.00

Finders fee = 10% of the price of the block. A reg 440 block, approx $3-400 the block you need for #s maybe a little more. With that block your value won’t be much higher since you have the next best block. Hemi, now that’s a different animal.! It’s not just the block, everything has to match if going down that road to bring the price up.
After reading some more, no finders fee just the price of the block, tops $800. Double what a normal 440 block can bring

Blessed, better than luck. The carburetor will go for that now.

I'm confused.

Does the OP have a contact that owns the VIN matching numbers block to his car, or "just" a date code correct HP block?

I agree with this. To any body else its just another 440 block that could be rebuilt. That takes a commitment to rebuild yet its not a "special" block. To you its special and I believe you are in a unique situation. If the owner cannot sell it to you he's not going to get a "premium" price. So the purchase price is over to you. If its a good sound block that can be machined without too much engineering such as sleeves etc then what's a fair price?. I know thats the question asked yet I cannot see a major premium price being paid if you are the only one in the market. Now if it is a 426 Hemi then we are talking a premium price regardless of matching numbers but 440's are not in that class. They are still darn fine engines - please dont get me wrong but there is no premium in a 440 in comparison. I'm at a stage where I have enough cast iron lying under benches for one of those "just in case" scenarios, that another block is just another block.

I'm running all stock saying pass - if your car is running and you're happy do not buy something that you will never use and not know the condition either - don't forget how much space an engine takes + you have to preserve it while your just keeping and not using it. My '71 383 4spd 3:91 w/ F70 14 Polyglas is numbers matching (don't know about axle) and runs and drives great, trans slips out of 3rd when coasting (keep your hand on shifter OK) and has a flatspot in the carb when your lugging, but overall runs perfect. I drove and showed at Carlisle ~ 400 miles this year no issues!

If it’s the numbers matching block and by that I mean that it matches the VIN then buy it. It can only add value to your car in the future. I know that some will disagree but it makes the car more appealing to someone looking for a numbers matching car. I’m not sure that it was mentioned but is the transmission numbers matching?

To my thinking alot has to do with the car the OP owns, original paint ? Interior ? Transmission? Rear diff, ect ect.
I know and understand the draw but if that block is the only original or numbers thing with the car then the finders fee isnt even in the picture jmho.
It's nothing to the seller except a 440 block.
I guess in the end to me it would depend on the rest of the cars originality before finders fee would even be a question.
Good luck with what you decide on.

That’s no good! Where’s the “HP” stamp?! :D
Only had 3 pics HP would be on the pad, which means nothing, Blocks are all the same, cams are different

I’m a little slow today. lol

Some actually pay a premium for a couple of letters an hourly line worker stamped while thinking about the attractive waitress at the local diner...

or something like that. :D
