I got sucked into watching the Pirate treasure on Adak Island - between Alaska & Russia. What a big let-down that was.

They found one coin..... supposedly there like 142 coffee cans full of gold coins buried on that island. The team nearly drowned, nearly died of exposure, falling off cliff faces, being shot at.......

I hated myself for watching it when it was over.

That’s the one that was based on a Russian Pirate, that buried gold coins on that island. And supposedly the navy found only a couple cans, but I bet they stole the rest.

Yep, and the landscape is now desolate from all the cheap housing that has been destroyed by sea storms and local kids.

A peat bog of an island with no real hope of finding much.

I'll bet the Navy was tasked with finding that gold and not much else. I suspect they found it too.

Another show that got up my nose was "Coopers Treasure" - they dragged that show out so long I got sick of waiting for the inevitable end. Apparently, he found gold, but what a drawn-out process to watch dives that yielded nothing more than a rusty anchor and some dead shellfish.

Sound's like Lasseter's in Australia uncle took an expedition of 27 Land rovers up to Doc river in Alice Springs all they found was a reef of fools gold come back early we were eating left over supplies for years dried apricots & tins of Irish stew , funny thing is i still like dried apricots.

What kind of metal detector do you have?

I used to swing the V3i but now use the Manticore.

I found more stuff in my front yard with a friend who brought his metal detector over. We found a barber dime and a giant silver and turquoise ring. Maybe I should have called the History Channel

I found an old corn knife and a driveshaft probably for an old baler. Most likely an IH because it still had red paint.
They wouldn't fit in my top pocket

I stopped watching years ago.... That english metal detector guy makes me want to take a hammer to someone... and the rest of it is bullshit.. that island is in the perfect spot to be a major port/restock/supply area and they know it was used for hundreds of years yet they are still surprised when they find a button... or a dropped penny.

It's a great detector but it's become too heavy to swing for an all-day hunt (usually 5+ hrs). Kills my rotator cuff and elbow.

The Manticore is so much lighter, and the tech is much better than the V3i. My buddy swings the Deus II and we've found that our old sites are almost new again with our new machines, we're digging smaller missed targets and coins that are deeper 6"+. Normally we were digging coins about 5".

I've found 2 more colonial coppers at a small cellar hole by the side of a road that my buddy & I as well as a few others hit years ago. They were both found close to the hole and I know detectors were swung over them.

Yea, Whites was the gold standard in customer service as well as equipment. Mary always took care of me whenever some issue came up.

Are you a member of Friendly Metal Detecting Forum, TreasureNet or American Detectorist? I'm a member on all 3 and use the same handle as here.

I'm going to donate it to Metal Detectors 4 Veterans as this hobby got me out of the house back in 2008 when I was unemployed for 8 months and took my mind off the stresses of job searching due the recession.
