I finally reached 10000 miles on my coronet. It sat with 9968 for decades. I put the proper speedometer gear in the tranny and a new speedo cable and watched it turn to 10000. Now it won't go to 10001.

I hear a click and the speedo needle jumps. It almost sounds like a gear stripping trying to turn the last number. I disconnected the speedo for now so I don't strip anything.

Has anyone come across this before?

Are u sure u set the speedo gear correctly?
Here is a thread about setting it with pics.

Yes. The speedo was working fine for 30 or so miles. I think it has something to do with it turning that extra digit for the first time after sitting for so long.

It still logs the correct speed, it just jumps 10 or 20 mph when I hear the click and the odometer will not turn the last number from 0 to 1

Weird, hope ya get it figured out.
I thought it might have been a simple fix.

may need some graphite in the backside of the speedo, the little plastic cogs/gears, plus shoot some down the speedo cable itself.
