Oh $h!t moment - water tower takedown goes wrong

Total incompetence, either due to low bidder or good old boy vendor hold my beer selection.
The first number one rule they broke very obviously, the equipment left within the fall radius for no reason, the pickups.
Went downhill from there, pun intended.

I'm no demolition expert (I just watch all the videos of experts doing such spectacular work), but it seems to me
taking down that water tank would best be done in reverse order of how it went up to begin with, eh?

Actually no, that would be much more dangerous for the workers, take a lot more time and cost a lot more, partly because of the poor unsafe condition of the structure.
Proper controlled demolition would be the best choice.

Well...
You figure repave 50' of street with curb and gutter. Replace some sidewalk.
Re sod that front yard,
Pay power company to replace lines at union scale.
Last but not least buy that home owner a new pair of jocky shorts.
That $40,000 pay day just turned into a $119.99 bill from the city.

I used to live in Independence KS from 78-82 and thought that area looked familiar but I’m not clear if this happened there or in Independence, MO?

I watched this on the News. It looked like one of the old steel legs buckled, causing the whole thing to twist and fall the wrong way. Lucky no one was hurt or lasting damage.

Independence, MO. I'm no demo expert but it seems it would be a pretty simple task to take 2 legs out simultaneously to prevent it from spinning on 1 like it did.

Boy I wish I could post video of a silo demolition disaster me and some buddy's got involved in....

Yeah, the low bidder related to someone in the Mayor's office who saw the bids and made sure his banjo playing, toothless nephew (by marriage) under bid everyone.

How low can you go!

I've seen one taken down before. They
used a huge crane to support the
weight once detatched, then lowered
it slowly down to the ground.
This "Timber!!!" stuff is really redneck.

Also notice at about 1:50, the worker cutting the rod. Looks as if it would've had a little more side load in it he could've got a hot poker to the face. Your view may vary.
