Oil filter comparison

I always used the Motorcraft FL-1A on Mopars because my Dad did, but I thought I'd do a little researching. Turns out that's not a bad filter and it's actually a Purolator.

I think most Mopar filters are Wix filters, they are exactly the same when you take them apart.

Also NAPA gold filters are WIX and I have done my own experiment between Napa, fram and Purolator and found the fram filter was the worst and Napa / wix did the best job. The experiment was to check oil pressures and filtering ability, frame dropped the oil pressure 10 psi and had inferior parts in compared to the other 2.

i have absolutely no use for Frams, the inside of one collapsed and clogged up the oil flow while i was driving down the express way in my truck. motor wasn't quite the same after that.

wix, napa gold's have worked good for me. i've also been running K&N's on my hemi, it turns 7200 and i've done a few bearing checks on it and it always looks great.

I've heard the motorcraft ones were good too. I checked out your car in the welcome wagon post from December. Nice Rod and cool avatar. Belated welcome aboard for STL Metro area.

K&N for me. Was a fram guy but read too many test articles over the years. besides Eddie Haines uses K&N... Good enough for Eddie, good enough for me.

Been using NAPA Gold (Wix) filters for eons without a problem. Most of the good shops in my area use Napa Gold and a lot of the new car dealers do also, if they are out of or don't stock a particular factory filter.

Based on that webpage, I'd say the 51515 WIX is the one. I just put a Motorcraft FL-1A on my '70 383, so unless they changed somewhere in the intervening years.

According to that dude's page, Motorcraft, NAPA, & Purolator are all the same.

You know when I was working at AutoZone back in high school in the 80's, FRAM had a piss-poor reputation. I always remembered that & wouldn't even use one of their air filters if I could help it.

I never really knew why, but after reading that dude's page, now I have documentation that FRAM sucks! :icon_biggrin:
