When I was a HS Freshman there was a local Tulsa late-night movie host who had a program called "Mazeppa Pompizoid's Uncanny Film Film Festival and Camp Meeting." A friend of mine and I thought he was great and never missed an episode. This is where I first saw all the old Frankenstein and Laurel and Hardy movies.

There were a lot of guest performances like Leon Russell (A local Tulsa Boy) and several episodes with Gary Busey who was unknown at the time. Anyway, my friend and I thought Mazeppa was great. His real name is Gailard Sartain. My friends' dad was a country music impresario and we brought his attention to Mr. Sartain. They set up a dinner and a concert and we all saw Sonny and Cher in Tulsa. He ended up signing him on as a client.

Long story short he's the most naturally funny guy I ever saw. He went on to have several bit parts in famous movies and was the fry cook on the long-running Hee Haw program. That also explains how I got to know some really famous country musicians.

Lookup any video with Gailard Sartain in it. I especially like his Heat pump commercials.

You can tell none of this is scripted. Skip to about 9 minutes. This is the Tulsa accent we have.
