I rebuilt my Carter AFB in the spring of this year. The inside of it was pretty dirty and a lot of the interior surfaces were very rough after cleaning. The car ran ok but was hard starting when it was cold and was gas guzzler even when I wasn’t putting my foot into it. I’m looking at trying an Eldelbrock AVS 2 carb. . I was wondering if that would work on my stock intake without any adapter or other modifications? Thanks 1967bperko

Yes it should. You will have to use the Mopar linkage adapter. I painted mine silver, they come in a gold color. Also use the thick Eldelbrock base gasket.
The 650 AVS2 is a good street carb. Photos show 2 types of kick down if you are using a Auto Transmission.

I ordered one yesterday from Summit with the adaptor.
Coming today. 800 CFM.
Talked to Tech at Edlebrock first and he said I would needed that with a manual trans.
I read that was the case from a review and wanted to confirm it.
The pictures show what I would call spread bore. Listed as a square flange.
I'm running a 383 performer on this build so that's not an issue.
I've got some stock intakes and will check.

When carbs are very dirty inside, it's easy to miss some thing and have a passage or two that are plugged. It's for that reason I used to dread carburetors. Now that I have an ultrasonic cleaner, I almost look forward to doing carburetors. How's that for sick? I don't know what is the price of a new AVS, but I would check into having it restored before I bought a new carb. The original carb will work well on the motor and no modifications are needed. That or buy a big ultrasonic cleaner, one of the best tools I ever bought

Do you have a stock 1967 383 intake? They have the narrow bolt pattern so the AVS will need to have two holes on each ear to fit. Also pretty small throttle bores so measure your intake bores first to see if a 625 will fit.

If you have a 2806301 or 2951666 intake it will fit with wide pattern.

Yes the mopar throttle adapter puts the linkage pin in the correct place. Needed for auto and manual. Holley and Carter/Edelbrock each sell one for their carbs.

Edelbrock's are dual pattern and will fit early and late square flange stock intakes. When using any square flange carb on a spread bore intake (Edelbrock performer)there is very little contact between the gasket and flange.
Keep a eye that it is centered using the thick Edelbrock gasket for a good seal.

If the hard-cold start is because the car sat for several days between use, it is probably due to our "modern" gasoline. An electric priming pump will cure the condition.

What are your plans for that Rochester that you are taking off. ?

Years ago I would go to Pull A Part and get them.
Had to get there as soon as he GMs hit the ground or teo guys and a wheelbarrow would get them first.
Long story to say I've run them on my car's exclusively for over 20 years and have two or three.still in reserve.
And LOTs of jets and needles etc.
But this is not a junk yard motor and I wanted a nice new design carb now that I've run it for the first time
I knew that it was a good carb. Just took it off another car after a rebuilding it

My intake is 2806301, the hard starting when the engine is cold ,is something new.It starts ok when it’s warm, but if it just sits overnight it’s really hard to start.Has anyone tried the AVS 2 carbs.that are on EBay for half the cost of an Eldelbrock.

This.

Diagnose the cause of your problem and fix it. There is nothing wrong with the carb itself. You said it yourself, this problem was not there until you rebuilt it.
