I have original dash pads that were covered with furry material in the 70s....any idea how to clean 40 plus year old residue??

Does it look like this?

Given no idea of the adhesive used, I start with trying the least heady cleaners first...dishwater soaps and go to goo-gone, if that doesn't work, a citrus based cleaner (not the other stuff) or Simple Green. Ya can't use stuff that will eat vinyl having harsh solvents. Be patient with the mild stuff using a stiff cleaning brush to see if you make headway. If you do, I'd stick with it and expend the elbow grease before getting more aggressive stuff.

okay thanks...I tried the goo gone in the past and didn't have much luck, I will let it soak for a while...I think it may be contact cement they used so I will get a solvent. A brush instead of a rag will be better also. Thanks again. Happy Canada Day.

Like the lighter fluid idea but test in a place that doesn't show.
