Is another's treasure.
What happened to the days when people repaired and refurbished things instead of throwing them away?

I was out driving the Cuda a few weeks ago and this old bench was out with the trash..... I went back and got my truck and took it.

A lot of sanding took many years off of it...

New hardware and a few coats of polyurethane and it will last many years to come

Nice job Jeff. To answer your question, Chinese imports are the issue. The whole world wants a cheaper price for everything and China provides it. It’s so cheap that the average person can just throw it away and update it. People are also busier, lazy and Feel the pressure to maintain a certain lifestyle. The world has gone crazy, I know.

Nicely done! Nothing wrong with free and a little grunt work.

The little saw in the picture was being thrown out by my neighbor. It ended up needing a carb. For around 100 bucks I had this little saw up and going. Great for rounding out my three saw plan.

My new to me dryer came off the side of the road. Looked pretty good driving by it so stopped and went back and loaded it up. It only needed a 7 dollar door switch.....

thats what Im talking about.I have no problem picking something off the curb.

That, and most people wouldn’t know where to begin to refinish/repair things like that anymore.

Cool job! About 15 years ago I found one of those golf putting targets that spits the ball back to you when you make a putt. It still works. I also found one of those motorized kids jeeps that they can ride in. We painted it desert camo, added some Tannerite and and used it for target practice...

I found a $400 mountain bike out in the trash near my house. The chain was rusted and a pedal was cracked. $20 later and some WD40, I was cruising around on it. Some kid must have whined to his parents that his bike was no good anymore and they just threw it out. Funny thing is that a minute after I got there and was loading it into my truck, another guy pulls up and said he saw it out there and went to get his bigger car to load it in. Snooze you lose !!!!

Although I never pick up things ( my wife keeps telling me that I pick up my coronet from the trash, but she's crazy) my grandpa do, in fact he fall sleep in a chair he found he re upholstered and he say it's very comfortable but ... he's 85 and he fall slept everywhere

Nice job.

I have several post and threads about-

Guess what I found (insert one) in the dumpster/on the side of the road/at the thrift store.

Some finds are amazing, like a mazda twin turbo setup or nearly perfect 250 WPC PA speakers!

I recently had a few more so it's about time to post them.

Here's a preview- my $10 pawn shop angle grinder gave out after almost 12 years.
This happened last month.
Two weeks ago...you guessed it, in the dumpster was a Ryobi angle grinder...and it works.

Y'know, sometimes people just don't want the stuff anymore and they put it at the curb for someone to take. If nobody takes it then its trash. That process seems pretty sensible to me.

Ryobi ... you'll probably be tossing that in two weeks yourself !! I'd buy Harbor Freight before I'd buy Ryobi !!!

Ryobi can be hit and miss.

My Ryobi table saw is WAY better than any of the comparably priced offerings from other brands, and has been going fine for over a decade and a half including the use of a concrete blade to cut metal for about 1/3 of it's life.

I also have a $10 pawn shop Ryobi keyless chuck cord drill (bought back when keyless was kind of new) that has been just fine also for over 2 decades.

It's actually doing better than my newer DeWalt.
Less noisy, easier to work on and cord has held up better!

Nice job op. Looks good .

We live in a disposable world . its nice to see things that can be reused .

Sweet scrore. I'm always looking . I find tons in the trash . Recently I found a huge fan ! Looked in decent shape I grabbed it retail was $600 blade s wouldn't spin . The front and rear bearings were frozen $10 later it works great ! I put it up for sale as it's a bit too big for my garage more of a warehouse kinda thing . Put it up for $250 to see what would happen the guy that trashed it saw my post and wanted it back said he couldn't figure it out . He paid the $250 ! Guess I'll wait till he tosses it again and fix it again!

I got a 48" direct drive fan that way too, but I'm having trouble finding the correct bearings.

It works but after about 30 min you can't stand the dull howl anymore.

Thinking about converting it to belt drive and using an extra pool pump motor I have but the pulleys and bearings for that are over $75.
