I am rebuilding my engine, after having purchased the car and finding out it only had ~7.65:1 CR. The other stuff on the engine are actually pretty good (which is why I was so suprised to find smog slugs in it).

So now I have Speed Pro ~9.35:1 pistons, Performer RPM Intake, Edelbrock 800CFM carb, Doug Thorley 4-1 1 3/4" primary headers.

QUESTION: The current cam is in good condition, and is a Comp Cams 270H. This will be a street cruiser, take the family for a drive, drive 50 miles round trip with some expressway to work car. I do not want anything too radical, but would like your opinion on this cam and if it would be a mistake to use it.

For what your doing and on a budget, stick with whatyagot. If you do buy a cam, get one with more exhaust dur like 280 or so and about the => intake you have, Good Luck

The speed pro 2355f's are concidered smog pistons?? Thought they were considered 6pack pistons. Or am I misreading here?

The new Speed Pro "6 Pack" pistons are what I am rebuilding it with now. When I bought it, it had "Smog Pistons", Federal Mogul 424P flat top, 0.171 piston to deck.

Back in the day Direct Connection had a 284-484 that was a good street cam probably just a little more radical than what you have. I'd probably use what you have as well.

The 6 BBL pistons will have the valve reliefs and be right up to the top of the deck. The compression distance is 2.065". That cam is similar to the hemi grind and will thunder nicely with those pistons. The 110 lobe separation leans more on the hot rod side than the daily driver so I'd recommend using a good ignition system like an MSD to keep the plugs clean. Also run a street calibrated carb for daily driver duties (not a race one like a double pumper). Header primary tubes should be 1-7/8".

OK. Was curious cause I have a similar combination. Good plan and your in the right place. Wish I had these guy's input when I was piecing my engine together.
