Opinion's on fuel pressure

Which holley pump and what filter? Is the fuel in a stock style tank or a cell?Is the fuel fed from a rear sump or sucked out the top? What size line from tank to pump & pump to regulator?Blown BB wedge, approx HP?Do you race the car at all? What are your future plans power wise?If you are to upgrade the system, overkill it and NEVER worry again. When I finally upgraded my system way back when, the car picked up almost a half a second:icon_hang:

15 gal fuel cell, 1/2 " line from sump to in line filter to elec pump, 1/2 " line to regulator, 1/2 " line to carbs. Never dynoed but we have to assume between 550 & 650 HP, Have not raced it yet but I'm planning on next year and yes I would like to over kill and never worry about.........I've been going thru the bugs since I got the car and have tried to make sure the bugs don't come back.

Guys,

When I start my car I have 6+ pounds of presure, drive for a while, get the car back home and check the fuel pressure gage under the hood and I'm at
3 lbs + -.

Im thinking dirt in the filter, maybe electric fuel pump getting tired, pump make a lot of noise (not sure if it is any louder than it was before)

Any body have this issue and found a fix?

Thanks, Butch

Butch,

What kind of guages are you using? If you are using liquid filled guages that could be your problem. Throw them away and get your standard NON liquid filled guage.

We were having the same problem as you. Set them @ 6.5 lbs and make a pass come back and they were at 2-3 or 4 lbs. It drove us nuts until I rememberd that a buddy of mine had the same problem with liquid guages back in the early 90's.
So We changed ours to the non liquid guages and set them at 6.5 lbs and the pressure doesn't move.

Try that before you go and change pumps.

We've been running two Holley Blacks with two Holley regulators on a 498 Hemi with a cross ram and they work fine.
All Holley Pumps make a lot of noise... Always have and always will.

Keep in mind if the car isn't nosing over (lean) then you might not have a pressure problem you might have a guage problem.

KD,

Thanks for the info, I do have an oil filled pressure gage so maybe that is the problem......I'll swap it out and see what happens (cheaper than a pump) and my current pum is noisey, I can't remember if it was as noisey before I started looking for the pressure issue (you know now it sounds like its going to fall off the car) I never really paid to much attention to it before.

Thanks to all who helped me out!!!!!

Butch,

I'm sure they were that noisy before.... I've been around Holley Pumps for over 20 years and they are all noisy.... It's the design of pump. One good point is even with the car running you know the pumps are on.... lol.
I'll bet you'll find that the guages are your problem. What happens is the liquid filled guages develop pressure inside them and screws with the reading. You will set them at 6lbs and after running it for a while they will be reading something completly different.
If you have doubts about your pumps, take a small gas jug and un hook your fuel line at the regulator, and stick it in the jug. Turn your pump on for a minute and see how many gallons it pumps. For example a 140gph pump which that is what the Holley Black is, should pump 2.3 gal in 1 minute.

Thanks

Kevin
