What do you all think a 1964 Dodge 440 426 street wedge with a 4 spd is worth? The car is #1 restoration with paperwork. What should the engine stamp read? Thanks

I just looked at the 62-65 mopar site and they said that there were only 8 produced. A clone was a car of the month a couple of years ago. If it is correct that there were only 8, I would think that you have quite a retirement fund.

I don't know what the engine stamping should be and I am no expert on 65 back cars so my GUESS on the value today is $18-20K.

Although rare the street wedge cars are overshadowed by the Max Wedges and then later in the year by the Hemi cars. Same thing for the 65s with the street wedge.

Is it possible that 1 of 5 built in 1964 is accurate?

I would find this hard to believe. I bought a new 64 polara 500 with the 426SW 4 speed in 64, There were a few around in Ct. then so I would think there would be more than 5 440's since they were alot cheaper than the 500's

It's a beautiful car but I doubt it's worth $99K. I think someone dumped too much money into that one.

440 Dodge w/426SW ??

Is it possible that 1 of 5 built in 1964 is accurate?

I would be VERY skeptical about this. I'm not certain Chrysler ever offered a 426SW in a 440 Dodge............Only in the 500's. If this 440 was truely authenticated by Galen Govier; I would want to see that paperwork first and maybe even call Galen. I would also contact Daryl Davis in Sanford, Fla. to verify that this was indeed a production option in 64. Another good source is Greg Lane. He's a history buff on the 62-65 Dodges and Plymouths and a wonderful resource on big block Mopars.

Certainly it's beautiful automobile and probably did cost a bundle to restore to this level. I really like that car!! In today's down market it should still fetch ~60K. Anymore than that is "Blue Sky" IMO......

I checked the prices on their other cars for sale...All of their prices seem kind of high...45,000.00 for a volkswagen bus is a little extreme for me...It,s a very nice car for sure...With todays market you can probably haggle them down..Looks like a consignment dealer to me...I,d check with galen govier first before I buy...he,d know if it,s the real deal or not...100 grand is alot of money to throw down...Defiently a good investment if it is the real deal...

I know they made dodge 440 four speed 426 streetwedge because I have one and mine is one of five in Galen's registry that car has been for sale for sometime and has been bid up to 50,000.00 on ebay did not meet reserve, based on 65 production I would guess about 50 made. I have seen that car in person when best of show was in Ohio and is very well done but I have done alot of research when building my car and there are some things not correct.

Some of the cars are overpriced, but I have bought two cars from them and they were the best, even better, and they stood 100% behind them. The most recent is a 63 Polara 500 Max Wedge, fully documented. They do take consignments, but the vast majority of those cars they own. The 64 440 426SW is gorgeous, but I absolutely agree it is way overpriced. It is real and the documentation is real. I think what I would be willing to pay for it and what they would sell for are quite wide apart, but who knows.

I am more curious than anything else. I have looked everywhere and cannot find any information on 1964 production numbers with a street wedge. I sure would not take it on faith just because some one says it is so, no matter how nice it is. It is way overpriced anyway.

I finally figured out how to do this. Here is the car. It sure would look great next to my 63 Max Wedge, but I have no idea of what it is really worth.

Hi Rob, yes it's a great resto and a great looking car but it would look a lot better next to our 63 than yours... see exhibit A below :D

We were told that there were only 5x 63 max wedge Polara 500s when we bought our 'clone' (from the guy that used to own your real one :icon_wink: ).... now I'm not saying he was telling porky pies or even intentionally misleading a couple of naive overseas visitors, but when we later found out that there were more like a couple hundred MW Polara 500s but only 5 black ones, we figured he may have just been a little economical with the truth :eusa_liar:

So it maybe that there were only 5 of this model in this color combo, but loads more in other colors? Just a thought...

Actually the fact of the matter is according to Darrell Davis's book, there were 124 1963 Dodge Polara 500 max wedges built. That includes 11.1 and 13.5 compression cars and convertibles. There were 96 2 Dr HT 11.1 compression cars like mine built. 44 were Torqueflites and I forget the number now, but less than 30 were black like mine. I think that 1 of 5 number came from Galen Govier having only 5 in his registry which includes mine. By the way we took it out three times this summer and I think that will be it. It is pretty much unstreetable, but in a straight line it is almost impossible to control.

Did a 1964 street wedge have the H pipe and cutouts with the exhaust pipes back to the mufflers welded on? Unlike the max wedge, was it all the same diameter pipe? Thanks.

Nope, the streetwedge just got the standard big block exhaust without the max wedge style cutouts. There are specific street wedge exhaust manifolds that look similar to standard big block pieces, but have the exit at the rear rather than before the rearmost cylinder.
