Orange wire from steering column

My original steering column connector to the wiring harness is cracked but i found a good one on a parts car which has an orange wire added to it. My original didnt have an orange wire. Whats the orange wire used for? I have a new m&h wire harness and it has an orange wire where the connector is supposed to connect. Thanks

Orange is dash lights so probably for column shift indicator.

The orange wire is use for power to lights, and is for the light in the gear indicator. Yours did not have one because it is most likely a manual trans column.
