Our 69 Coronet. Getting legal for Kiwi roads

Wood dowel or steel punch that fits snugly in the bushing ID, fill the cavity with grease and then hammer in the dowel and the bushing will come out.

I was never that lucky. Tried that, the puller and I can't remember what else was available in the late 70's to the 80's when the manual was in. One thing I did finally try was using some all thread in the bell housing holes to help slide the trans forward. After many years of floor jack/wiggling routine it was nice to be able to make one part easier.

Got her running. Clutch works well so far..

Ha ha ha, good ol carjam.
Yea, I cable tied those plates on so I look a bit more legit while test driving
Don't worry too much....you're not alone there...I saw this one just a couple of km's from my house ...

I'm almost ready for compliance check, and intial repair cert check (flagged for small chassis damage). In the next week or two, then I find out if I need to do any body work, it should be minimal, as it has very little rust, one bottom 1/4 is bondo, and a small patch of trunk floor, so hopefully they don't care much, and if they do it's easy patch stuff

Our Coro has been running great, new clutch works mint.
We put her through "compliance" last week, it's a very strict check to make sure the car is roadworthy.
They were happy with the cars mechanical condition after the work I did.
However, they were unimpressed with some of the panel work. Has been sent to a "body repair certifier" to have the suspected areas looked at, two areas of Bondo in trunk (the trunk floor is very pitted, I'm lucky they let most of it go) and a stiched on quater needs further examination.
I quickly made up a patch for the trunk corner to show the certifier I can make metal patches, hopefully he allows me to do my own repairs.

More progress on project wanna bee.
Had to do repairs to trunk floor, lower quater and a couple of little rust holes.
C pillars were fine, and driver's quater was brazed on in the 80s, this was all fine with the inspector, but what a lot of work to find out it's all good underneath, frustrating. Now I have to do the mud work and get it in for final inspection in primer.

Got project wanna bee legal for the road here in New Zealand.
Signed off as a solid car, all body work signed off, all modifications from factory checked and certified.
Assigned a n.z. vin number, number plate and warrent of fitness. All legal to drive now
Next up, a D.I.Y. paint job in my shed.
Same color, but red all over with black hood. Have a new stripe on the way, and painting with a single stage (no clear coat) 2k solid red, the same as the red it's already painted

Congrats on getting the Dodge street legal. That can be a big hurdle sometimes.

Pretty badass just like it is!

Looking real good. I'm kind of surprised the inspectors make you repair all those rust areas even though they are not part of the structural integrity of the car. We are real lucky on that regard over here. Did you stick with the 215/65/15 tires on the front, or go with something else?

Yep, kept the 215 on the front.
295 on a 10inch on rear.
And yes, annoying I had to strip those areas, especially as this car is really solid overall. I'm just painting to whole thing red again in my shed, same color as it was before.
Our government is progressively making it harder to import cool old USA cars,

What in the world is a body repair certifier ?
A retired panel beater. They inspect the car when imported for body repairs over it's lifetime, sometimes they are cool, sometimes they make you strip stuff if they think it's Bondo. It's a real headache, quite often the biggest hurdle to get a classic car legal here

Been busy with paint prep, only found one more small spot of rust, so fixed that.
Stripped the roof back, as it was crocodile reaction all over it. Primed with epoxy urethane. Did small dent filling and 2k prime to repairs.
Have now rubbed the whole lot back, and am making my DIY booth. Hopefully spray charger red tomorrow
