Our season next year isn't looking good

Looks like maybe the end cap came off "broken bolts?" It's pretty clean looking and in tact....
The crank journal has some pretty bad bruises in it, so it probably swung around and took out the rod.
The rod being snapped in half and shoved around one rotation of the crank took out the lower cyl walls, and camshaft.

Looks like Eagle parts used...... the name EAGLE is on the remaining rod studs.....

My 2 cents...

build, race, break,Start cycle over.Sad to see, good luck getting it back together.

Kevin, my offer still stands. Racers helping racers.
I know you and dad will be ready for the Beaver. It wont be the same without you guys there.

Sorry I've been MIA.... been working on Snowmobiles, I need to go riding... It's been a rough December.

I know you'll help us out any way you can. Thanks a bunch! If it's possible were going to at least try to make it to the Beav.... we'll see.

Thanks,

sorry to here about the bad news my buddys hemi in his awb car broke a valve at martin in sept it ruined 1 head 2 pistons and its getting 2 sleeves now, it sucks but thats racing pay to play as they say.

OUCH! We've been there also... That damn valve bounces from cyl to cyl. Hope both of us get's the motors back together for next season.

KD, if you don't mind me asking ...what rods were you using ?

Chris is right , we were running Eagle rods. They had about 270 passes on them. They had the good ARP L series bolts which only had 92 passes on them.

What's special about the block? That looks pudry rough.

Nothing special about the block other than it's another $3000.00 + we have to come up with. If we can sleeve it for $300.00 then that's what we'll do.

KD;any idea what caused this? Bolt failure or cap failure? Or did the piece of the cam initiate this carnage?

Al, not sure yet. We've been busy over Christmas and haven't had timet to dig into it. We're going to pull the crank and rods and see if it tells us anything. Just from what I can see it looks like broken rod bolts but until we look deeper I can't say for sure.

Yha, Eagle Crank and Rods, 270 passes on them with 92 on the bolts. Not sure but I think your right about the broken bolts. Not sure until we pull it apart.

Yha, we've got to break this cycle. We were doing pretty well until the last couple of years. Last year 3 broken Valve springs and a lifter that was coming apart. this year broke a sprage in the transmission which took the whole case then this mess.

Thanks

happy new year Kev!
do what i did and change engine builders. its alot less painful when your engine stays together and you only have to deal with the little things.
this stuff isnt cheap.

good luck

:iamwithstupid: Good luck & Happy New Year KD Belvedere, parts carnage/sh-t happens, sometimes with no apperant rhyme or reasoning, it could have just been some minor flaw somewhere, that's racing unfortunately, I hope you get it back together for next season, I look forward to seeing & hearing about your passes, especially on the "new/improved engine combo", maybe you can get some Govt. Stimulus $$$$$ for your project...LOL.....

Our Engine builder has done us right in the past. He built a good motor.
But with that being said I think Ed and i are going to re build the motor. I want to know what's in the motor so I guess we are going to change engine builders.

Thanks Bud....

Stimulus.....Hey, I wonder if Indy Cylinder Head will take a EBT card? We can call it the Endangered Spieces Act..... Or the Davis Recovery and Reinvestment Act. :eek:ccasion15:

What do ya think?

That's funny, what ever works for you...LOL...

Well good news, we just had the block magnafluxed and it's ok, however we need at least 5 cylinders sleeved (which we already knew, so we'll just sleeve all 8 that way they’re all-fresh.

We just need to decide weather to go with 4.25, 4.28, or 4.31 bore with a 4.5 stroke crank.

I don't think I like the idea of 8 sleeves:read:Might want to get an aftermarket used block or even a new one:blob1:

Kev can dad push buttons.come get the white max wedge.my buttons are in the normal place for us old guys.keep it warm.

LOL.... Don't worry we'll keep it nice and cozy.

I think that crank will clean up at .010 . Maybe

My concern would be that the crank was beating the crap out of the rod I wouldn't trust it's soundness.

Not to mention this is a good time to go to a 4.5 stroke from a 4.25.

Anyone have any opinion on K-1 Cranks and Rods?

So for everything I've heard so far is they're as good as they get for the money. Yes Callies, Crower Cranks and Oliver Rods are better but they're also twice the money.

K1 is one step better than the Eagle low end crank. Good up to 800-850hp.I know a few guys with the K1 and are happy with them.
they said the clearances were pretty good ROOTB.
The high end Eagle crank is good up to 1200hp.

Might be the best bang for your buck. 8 sleeves would be stronger than the original block.

My bet is that Kev's dad is getting it done and will be ready for Beaver Springs.:sFl_america2:
Maybe Kevin will chime in?

We'll see, that's the goal. The block is getting sleeved and the pistons are on order.

What crank was that? 6-bolt or 8-bolt? Eagle? I could use it if you're just junking it.

Tell him I'll pay freight to ship it my way if he can't use it. 8-bolt is what I got.
