Just released from the hospital from hernia repair surgery.
Probably miss about 3 weeks of racing.
Some work too but that's not important to rich people like myself.
I've made 2 test passes early this year and getting seriously anxious.

Sooo, when did hernia happen? The “blue forum” wants to know! Sorry for the happenstance. Get well, don’t go overboard too soon.

I've had it for a year. It just started interfering with work, so needed it done.
Thanks

An old,old story. Went thru boot camp in ‘69 with a guy from Pa. He had a hernia then and made it all the way(?). Saw him again in S.E. Asia in early ‘71 and he said he was going for operation, pulled down his pants to show me! Right in the groin, still can’t figure out how he got through everything. Pain tolerance-unbelievable!

I had an inguinal hernia (I assume that's what Bob had, too) from about age 12 to around age 28.
Finally got it taken care of when it started getting tougher to pull it back up into place (strangulated
hernias can be fatal!).

I played sports in school, had manual labor jobs, all the usual young man stuff with one.
When I had mine done, there was no such thing as "the mesh" - in those days, they grabbed muscle
from across ones' abdomen and stretched it across, stitching it in place on the other side.
Took about a month of VERY painful recovery.... I learned to drive my 5.0 Mustang 5 speed without
a clutch for that month. :realcrazy:

My dad had the same thing repaired 15 years later and actually walked out of the hospital the same day.
The mesh was quite the miracle. :)

Just be holding on to everything when you sneeze. That made me take back things I never said! Get well.

An informal question, and any who answer are officially absolved of any liability.
I was using an Ab Lounger to do sit ups about 8 years ago and felt a sharp pain in my abdomen about 2" above my navel.
I know it's a hernia. When I sit up my affected area has a large, bell curved hump in it.
My question is if I get this repaired, with the best methods available today, can I expect a recovery level that would allow me to gradually exercise my abdominal muscles again? Or should I just be grateful to not have to worry about my insides popping out on the floor one day...or something in between?
Thanks

Get well soon. I guess it's a sooner or later thing.

I have been nursing a navel hernia for awhile. One of these days...Doc says recovery is about six weeks.

I might go with the titanium plate or maybe the carbon fibre............

I would say to do it.
It will eventually heal back to normal.
Mine started with a sneeze a year ago. I just felt something pop.
It eventually got worse due to the physicality of my job. I got bigger every month. It finally started giving me (almost daily) stomach cramps that became intolerable.
I wanted to put it off a while longer to finish up work that I am in the middle of, but insurance year renews June 1 and my deductible had already been met, so I needed it done now.

Yup, 6 weeks.
So I plan on going back in 4 days.

Get well soon - hopefully with not much pain.
We can wait for those weekend race reports while you recover and make plans for the next items to work on.

Had mine the 14th of May. Went back to work last Thursday. Bought a winch and ramps for the truck Wednesday. No more lifting ever. Good luck Bob, happy healing!
