Over Drive/Four Speed Without A Computer ?

My last experience with any transmission, let alone mopar was the early eighties overdrives. So this part below, pretty greek to me. Anyone use this part yet, or is there something better out there, control wise ? Thinking about putting a late model 360 drive train in. Is there a modification, that's allows me to use those transmissions, without a computer ?

Lock up converter is what they're doing...

Chrysler had them in the {late 70's?} early/mid/late 80's,
sorry I don't use them to be specific still some older tranny shops have them,
know about them...
It's electronically controlled specific valve-body... No Computer needed
The valve body has a special bypass line & you need a lock up {low slip} converter....
a momentary switch can be used to activate & deactivate...

This is probably way off base, and 10x the price, but I saw the boys at Roadkill install one of these and it is probably what I will be going with on my A904, one of these days well beyond the horizon.

The setup you are talking about I remember reading of years ago (I think, if it is the same one) and it sounded interesting. Does Allpar.com have anything on it? Could try asking their transmission guys too.

This site is a good start. I want to go this route myself with a C-body cruiser I have. The swap does not look all that difficult and it has been done quit a bit.

After I read your post again I see you want to drop in the magnum engine and overdrive trans. The first link is for swapping a A518 OD trans behind your B/RB engine. The A-body guys have a thread for swapping in late model magnum drivetrains
 
Or do a JW Performance BB Bell-housing on a newer SB O/D trans,
or an adapter, I know someone make one I just don't remember who...
still need the electronic interface thou...

I am using a 1994 518 with JW Performance bell housing adaptor behind a 440. The OD and lockup is each controlled with a electric solenoid that can be controlled manually or automated using pressure switches. Not cheap by the time you buy a stall/lockup and the adaptor but the OD/lockup is great.
 
I know gas is cheep at the moment. And there comes a time, when the expense of an over drive, makes no economic sense. Thanks again for your input.
 
I like you have been toying with this idea for some time now.Every angle,mod,type,product out there I come up with a cost of the $4000 range to complete.I ask myself,"Do I drive it enough to justify ?"
 
I thought the RH trans was hydraulic control with the OD being electric and could be turned off an on with just a simple switch?
 
The A518 46RH is hydraulic an can be switched on with the parts I showed above. The A518 46RE is electronic and needs a $700-800 controller to make it work.

The simple parts above will cost me about €250,-...

He used this setup for his small block challenger so he didn't had to chop the bellhousing and replace it with a JW Performance Ultrabell bellhousing...
