Took my 70 roadrunner out of hibernation and noticed it was overcharging putting out 16 volts. First I changed electronic voltage regulator, alternator that has two fields and battery one at a time and still overcharging. I then ran a ground strap from regulator to car body and additional ground from engine to body and from battery to body. Cleaned bulkhead connections and replaced voltage regulator field wires that are blue and green in harness. Regulator was cheap so I bought another one thought maybe got a bad one. After all this it still putting out 16 volts. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks Mike

test the voltage with 2 different meters and see if youre getting 16 volts on both meters.

is the battery sizzling or overflowing?...and was it doing this when you put it away last year? sounds like you got everything covered....odd!

Mine was doing this recently, turned out to be the battery ground wire was loose and dirty.

I had similar problem on my 73 RR. I was getting 17V. Changing the regulator fixed mine, though (13.5V after change). I've got strange things going on with the parking lights--working on that now.

If you don't have a wiring diagram, you can get one on mymopar.com --might be of some help.
Good luck, Luther

I went through THREE new voltage regulators, and finally after two failing units from Advance Auto Parts (one would overcharge, and one wouldn't charge) I went to Autozone and purchased the newer style voltage regulator for electronic ignition and it has worked out perfectly and keeps a constant 13-14V depending on conditions.

Hope you get it your problem solved!
