I've got a 1969 B body Dodge. I'm really trying to make it a dependable affordable daily driver.
While I was pinching a loaf this morning, I was reading a 3 year old Mopar magazine, and saw an ad for a 727 trans conversion to give it an overdrive gear.
I have a 904 transmission. Does anyone know if anyone makes an overdrive kit for the 904 trans, and if so, what is involved and what does it cost?

Any help would be appreciated.

What is an A500 ?

the a500 is a more modern small block trans used on the 360's of the 80's. Good stout little trans, im not sure but i think it may require an adapter bellhousing, dont hold my feet to the fire on that, but for an overdrive kit your looking upwards of 2 grand for a decent one, so replacing trans is your best bet

Hmm.
Is the overall size dimesions the same as the 904?
Do I need a new drive shaft?

A500 is basically a 904 with an overdrive unit in the tail housing IIRC. Bell housing bolt pattern is the same as earlier transmissions, as long as it is built for the same engine category (LA or B/RB.)

A518 is the 727 version with overdrive if you go that route.

Keep in mind that you may have to modify your floor board in the transmission tunnel area to make room for the overdrive unit. Driveshaft length might also need to be changed. (I haven't measured one to tell you the difference.)

So, (just so I'm clear on this) for my 1969 Dodge Coronet 2 door, what A500 trans should I look for out of what kind of vehicle, years, etc, and, if I'm clear, the bellhousing should bolt right up, correct?

(sorry to sound stupid, but I just don't want to get into something that I can't finish after spending a bunch of money)
