I have been running hot for a long time. Temps would be up to 230 at times in traffic and have to pull over to let it cool off. I was trying all kinds of things...different thermostats, redirecting the flow behind the grill, different fans. I recently installed an electric fan because everybody was saying those were the best things. I wired it up myself and spent hours reading and understanding relays and diodes to make sure I did things right. Went out for a drive the other day and still running hot. Got home, pulled out the IR thermometer and started checking the temps everywhere. THEN IT HIT ME... I did not notice before that the previous owner had the wiring for the temperature gauge running UNDER the intake. (It's the 6 barrel intake so there's a gap). Even tho it's been like this forever, luckily I've not had to remove the intake for anything and never paid any attention to it. I feel stupid for not seeing it sooner. But I bet the previous owner would feel worse for ACTUALLY running it like that and knowing that was the problem. Lol
I rerouted the wires and temps stay close to where they should. I'm still not happy with where the temps are. It got up to 207 with a heavy romping session. But then settled back down to 195-200. I cant remember what thermostat is in it now because it's been changed so many times.
The stuff I've been reading says that these temps are "normal". I feel it's a little too high. Can I get some confirmation of whether I'm good or still need to bring the temps down? I think I need to figure out what thermostat is in it before I do too much more.

207 would concern me too. There are 2 other cooling threads going now, check them out.

Most of the stuff that I've tried has been from reading this forum. This place is great and sooooo much info!
I had thought timing could be off but it runs great overall. Idle sucks but that's due to the cam. Could timing be an issue even when it runs great?

In diagnosing, that is a good place to start.

Ya, that's how i figured out the Guage was not getting an accurate reading. The only temperature above 205 was UNDER the intake and at the exhaust. Everything else was under 190.

Glad to find out your under intake problem. I would never had thought of that, and may be the reason mine runs hotter than I would have thought.............MO
